Today's exchange rate is AUD$1 = USD$0.94.
It's predicted that in March, US interest rates will drop while Aussie interest rates will rise. If this happens, then it's likely that the exchange rate will stay in the mid 90's.
Some analysts are predicting 95 - 97 cents exchange rate.

XJ's are great!
Get yourself a super reliable manual with the 2.5 litre turbo diesel donk - the one that comes with the top performing VM engine. You'll never buy another 4WD again.
The 4.0 petrol auto is a bit of a gas guzzler and is prone to overheating. Many people have tried to fix the heat ...

Then again, it would probably only take you 4-6 months of driving to pay the gas conversion off, and then it's saving you a shitload.
So in reality, if you can do it cheap enough and retain the performance, it would be an awesome conversion for the TJ.
$3000 of petrol/gas difference in 6 months ...

I'd say anywhere between 18 - 20 litres per 100km for a lifted XJ running oversized MT'Rs and roof mounted light bar. Wind drag would be the main factor.

I don't have high hopes for the new turbo diesel wrangler. Latest rumour I've heard is that it'll be the same donk as the KJ (2.8 litre). In the KJ this donk works pretty hard so I can only assume that with a heavier wrangler body, it'll have mediocre performance espescially in the long wheelbase 4 ...

Just loop the snatch strap or winch cable over the towball - it's the easiest way to recover using a towbar. I've done this heaps of times and never had a problem.
