Making some assumptions here BUT. If your thinking of throwing away your FC170 closed knuckle front diff then contemplate replacing it with a Dana 44F. This "rare" axle is common in any early Cherokee, Wagoneer, Commando and is well known..... Dana 44F suits 1962 - 1965 J200 & J300 1957 - 1964 FC ...

The Chrysler/AMC/Rambler 360's were all used in the Cherokee range but AFAIK the Chrysler 360 is NOT genuine to the CJ10 wereas the AMC is. Take a spanner and disconnet BOTH battery terminals. Clean both extremely well. Have some anti-corrision stuff on hand and use same when re-connecting the battery terminals.
Get to the starter motor terminal as well and clean it well.

Problem will disappear - a given.....

Yep. A 108 unit will do for aluminimum quite OK. It will have to work hard to join steel over 4mm however. The spool is ??? wire??? ally????
