supercharging TD42
supercharging TD42
has anyone supercharged a td42 an know what parts would be best to use or any issues i would have
I did mine a few years back. I used a toyota supra Blower. 2.5 to 1 pully sysem. Used a ribed belt. Turn the pump up. Got 125rwhp on 35''. 5psi at 1000rpm so low down torque was awsome.10psi at 2000rpm.held 10psi to red line but blower is to small to make good power passed 3000rpm. Should be able to pick a blower up for $250 to $350 from wreaker or cheaper private. Get some one to machine up the pullies. I did my whole setup for 600 bucks. The only problem I had was belts wearing out and sliping quite bad when wet. A tooth belt set up would be the go. But the blower mounts have to be very stirdy and have no flex in them other wise when the blower moves from reving up and down the tooth belt will get a whip up and fly off. I tried a toothed belt but could not stop the belt whiping, at the time I didn't realize the blower mounts where the problem. I used a dayco 7pk type ribed belt and ally pullys, nice and wide. Worked very well. Don't have the set up any more. But any question please ask

turbo intercool it ... you'll be able to modify it easier and get more HP/TORQUE
TD42 has plenty of low down torque for off roading depending where u want your power you can get a turbo to suit
plenty of things to do for power gains

Mines got a sprintex supercharger fitted, runs sweet as a nut done over 100 000 klms with it on. I do get belt slip under water if the belt's not tight enough or its about worn out, at 20 000klms i change the belt $60. I use it daily to drive to work etc and play on the weekend. All brackets are made to suit but any movement would be bad, had to relocate the power steering filler bottle to over where the clutch master is to create room for it to fit. Torque is probly around 40% more at low revs but over 3500rpm it starts to level out. If i wanted more torque i would have to modify injector pump to give more fuel. I havnt run it over a dyno but will one day out of curosity. Im happy with fuel economy around town 80 ltrs 500klms if you drive normally, if you flog it expect 300klms out of same amount of fuel. I can post pics if you would like to see the setup, or ask if you need more details etc.
