Roof console in Hilux

Post by Yumsylux »

I was wondering if anyone out there who has a rood console would like to post a couple of pics up. I'm wanting to fit one in my 1994 lux. Could you tell me whereabouts you mount the brackets to and how much weight can one hold in the console. I'm hoping to be able to put my cb and maybe a map or two in it. I'd really like to know where you bolt the console to most importantly. Thanks guys.

I made the template up for mine tonight (92 extra cab), hoping to build it next weekend. Easiest place to mount them is at the rear view mirror and interior light. The one in my 80 is mounted like this and could handle a couple of kilos easily. This is how I'll be mounting the one in the lux, using a piece of flat steel to mount under the mirror and relocating the interior light into the console so you screw the console in through the hole made for interior light, then screw the light over the hole.

Hope that helps. Could get some pics of the one in the 80 tomorrow if you like?

Yes please. Thanks for that Trusa. I looked at the screws that hold the mirror and light and they look so small I didn't think it'd be strong enough to hold much weight. I guess a CB and some lights aren't really that heavy. Maybe 2kgs at the most? What are you making the console out of? I was thinking some either really thin ply or some 3mm MDF with marine carpet?
