Part Time VS Full Time 4wd?

With standard LCs having part time 4wd does this cause increased ware one the rear pinion and diff, compared to an AWD variant that divides torque between two diffs?


-I know the 1HZ doesn’t put out huge numbers… but with an aftermarket turbo added would the drivetrain cope as well as an AWD would?

Matt,

the rear diff is large and quite strong, it can cope fine with extra power. Driving habits have far more to do with diff damage than the actual power/torque run through them. it is quite possible to destror the diff with a regular 1HZ, and it's also quite possible for it to last 300,000km with an intercooled turbo pushing 550Nm and 200kW - it's how you apply the power that makes the difference.

There is more slop with and all wheel drive but in my opinion it drives better. I did a part time conversion but in time I will go back to full time.

If you have anything more than a 2 or 3 inch lift I would go part time.

It is also more handy for full time as you don't have to get out

Personally I think there are both advatages and disadvantages for both concerning strength as backlash would be wearing I would suggest.
