Where to buy steel from in Melbourne
Bit of a Noob question I know. I need to knock up a rear bar for my car to get a RWC. I was wondering where I can buy 3.6mm steel (to match front bar) around the Dandenong area. It needs to be about 1200mm by 250mm.
Thanks
Harley

Ok here's my plan.
The rear of my Jimny looks currently like this.
And because quotes I got for a rear bar were 600-1000 and I am a tight a ss,
I was think of making a bar similiar to this.
It would be made out of simple piece of metal with the bottom corners angled of slightly. Will then put thick steel post which go through the bar and bolt onto the chassis to use as recovery points.
Will it look ok as one flat piece of metal painted black if I dull the sharp edges with a file or similiar? Btw the Boldy lift is now out.

There's a reason the tube is cheaper, in all probability it is hydraulic tubing which is much softer than a good quality DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubing that is commonly used for roll cage fabrication.sideways wrote:try Van leuans , they are on greens road just near the train line, i got seamless tube for a roll bar and they were cheaper by more then $7 a meter , they have lots of different size and thickness all in stock
