Just found an oil leak in the g/f's 2002 RAV4. Local mechanic says it appears to be coming from the rear main seal.
Has anyone had to replace a rear main seal on a RAV4 before? If so, what was involved (gearbox out, CV's out, etc) and how long did it take?
Don't have a problem with the mechanic and trust his work, just need to find out what's involved and how long it would likely take as he hasn't done a seal on a RAV before.
Obviously the g/f doesn't like the idea of having to spend up to $1000 on her car.

Sorry to say it could be alot more, no doubt whern the gearbox is out they will find hte clutch worn (if it's a manual) worn CV's etc.
But, if ev erything else is good, it should take longer than a day to do the job. So say 8 hours X your mechanic's hourly rate should see you in the ball park.
