air locker

Post by rocklux »

ive just got a rear air locker for my 94 lux. i noticed that when its disengaged dif oil spits out of the blow off on the compressor. i took it back to the shop and they said that the breather extention must be blocked or kinked. so i checked the hose and even disconected it. it still blows oil. is this a common problem? whats wrong with it?

that was happening to the one that arb installed in my vitara ever since day one. the 2 o rings that sit in the seal housing are either twisted or knackered, and allowing minute amounts of oil to be forced back up the air line. as long as your compressor isnt cutting in while the diff is locked it shouldnt leak air....mine never did. i replaced the o rings and it stopped doing it  trouble is its a $2 part to fix but time consuming in labour, thats why the shop will try and worm their way out of it. arb screwed a quick release fitting onto the exhuast of the solenoid, and ran an air line down into the chassis rail, so the oil didnt spray out under the bonnet  love the smell of diff oil ;)

search, people.

http://outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=48052 <- contains my explanations of how this happens

http://outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=88588 <- contains Daniel Bongard's explanation. He is probably "more" correct, since he is an engineer with ARB. I still stand by my reasons though.

cheers

did you read the two thread which I posted? take the time to do your homework before you embarrass yourself - chances are high that your locker is fine, and the problem, if there is one, is external to the locker itself.

went to the shop today and they said that a small amount of oil is expected. but this is driping. 5 shots covers an a4 piece of paper. so they will be pulling it apart to cheak the seals.
