Lifted Vitara Steering
Lifted Vitara Steering
Hi, has anybody had experience with lifted Vits and the angles of the steering arms? Mine is up about 70 mm in the front and now I have "variable" toe in my steering. The tie rod arm angles now cause a twisting action on the cross arm as you move the road wheel. I was toying with the idea of dropping the idler arm down (and making it stronger)..

Charlie - yep got inverted mounts and OME struts (until I can find longer ones !) and have fitted camber adj. bolts. Camber been measured as in spec..
Viagra - if you jack one front wheel up and wobble it, does your cross arm assy move and allow the toe in to vary ? Mine does ! measured at 8mm pos to 8mm neg. 16mm variation from the angles. Still steers ok but does not like the bitumen roads with double "hollows". Wear is not too bad either.. I just wanna make it right !
Antt - How does one get a few pics onto this forum ?
thks

How you do camber adjust? Custom adjustable camber bolts?
I think so. I am getting some noises I never got before.... but I know my left front wheelbearing is on it's way out so I wouldn't read much into it other than the wheel bearing i sstuffed.
I did it with two high tensile Caterpillar bolts, one size smaller than std. With hardened flat washers either side. This allows the strut to "lay in" just enough. There is no way it will ever move.. Plus I replaced the lower bolts as well. Easy as !!

You're just not hitting them hard enough
Sounds like it would slip the way i drive mine (I've popped some seams from impacts offroad).
mind you better to give there than in other spots and it would be easy to put back in place if it's all nicelty marked....
