How to remove paint from powder coat ???

Post by want33s »

I just got a set of 15X8 sunraysias but the previous owner has painted them grey-silver with an aerosol. Does anyone know a good way to remove the paint without affecting the (white)powder coat??

im pretty sure your limited to sanding back carefully.

tho it may be easier to sandblast them and recoat them with white or whichever colour tickles you fancy.

Maybe even acetone? But I dont know if that would affect the powder coat.

Wheels are only three weeks old and not a mark on them except a light coat of paint. I paid $100 for 4 wheels. Sandblasting and recoating will cost $150-$200. Adds up to more than the cost of new wheels. If I have to I'll scuff and repaint white.... I thought seeing as original powdercoat is perfect I might be able to just remove paint. Does anyone have a solution rather than an alternative(sandblast)?

Well paint them white again ;)

Good sandbalsters can remove just the piant layer and leave the powdercoating

I have tried this before with very messy results. I tried it again this morning with Enamel thinners instead of Acrylic. It works well. No damage to powdercoat. thanks ofr57
