hes and 80 rear diff will bolt straight into a 60. they are a fair bit stronger, much heavier case, bigger side bearings, gears are more or less the same but better supported so less likely to break. all 80's are LSD or locker rear.

The side bearings in an 80's diff' are the same as 60's lsd, 75's lsd ,hzj 75
The bearing kits for any l/c LSD are the same.
The crown wheel and pinion out of a 60's will fit in an 80's housing and make it a HZJ75 diff' if you have the parts and experience to do it.

Hey sixdeetoo i paid 1K for the whole completely rebuilt center, had been used only a couple times as it came out of this fellas (Brad from tyreworks) Comp Car, only reason he sold it was cause he went from the 80 series running gear to GU running gear. Did you put an 80 rear in yours????, if worst comes to worst ill get my mate to swap the locker RD33 into my old housing, but would be good to get away with it!!!
I ran a 60 series centre in a rear 80 housing with 5.29 gears once....(37/7)

Um...the 60 lsd and the 60 open ran thesame side bearing....maybe u had an 80 lsd in the 60 centre....from the 80 the side bearing changed id to metric...so did the ARB locker designation.
The pinion shaft in a 60 is smaller diameter than 80....all hzj75 ran 4.1 (80 series) centre...ive pulled out a diff from a hzj75 and found it to be a 4.11 60 centre....so theres no problem running this config in a part timer...but you wont get away with it in a constant...

Early Landcruiser LSD's ran the smaller diameter side bearings up to 1984 then they ran the 50mm bearings same as every other L/C.
HZJ75's run 4.11-1 and 80's run 4.10-1 you can also get a 4.3-1 out of some 78/9's and 100's.You can't run a low pinion front diff in an 80's because it will hit the steering rod.

I'm pretty sure the changeover is 1989/1990 when the engines and drivetrains changed. Not trying to be a smart arse but I'm pretty sure the change was in 1984/5 when the 75's came out .These day's you might find either size in these diff's because they probably have had reco diff's fitted and the hemisphere's all interchange as do the crown wheel and pinion sets.
So the reco 80's diff center you buy from the wreckers or who ever could have a c/w and pinion out of an '87 75's troopy and a LSD hemisphere out of an '82 60's wagon and a housing from a '95 HZJ75's ute I know this would make it 4.11-1 instead of 4.10-1 but most wreckers supply either diff to the trade and no one ever checks they just fit them .Which means there are fulltime 4wd 80's out there running 4.10-1 in the front and 4.11-1 in the rear and no one's any the wiser.
In the real world when a change over unit comes back and the c/w and pinion are farked it gets stripped inspected and made good again with what ever is available.Same goes for late model L/C 5 speed's there are plenty of them built out of early 5 speed's no one's going to pull a box apart to check and if it does the job where's the problem.But it is annoying when I order part's by year and model only to find when I've got the unit apart on the bench it's originaly out of something else but that's what keep's me on me toes.

i just had my LSD rebuilt, cruisers been in the family since new and its the first time the diff has been touched. am i the only lucky bugger to find two sets of 4.556 ratio diffs in 60 series.one set i swapped for a set of 3.7 and the other set i got for $300 but they came with a stripped 60. both are out of 60's with 2h and a440f autos in them.
one set i put in my 80 series and got a hi pinion head out of a kzj78 landcruiser with 1 spare head and the other set is going into my fully optioned hj62 which will be running 37'' tyres.
