vinegar contains acetic acid. Selleys do make a silicone remover. You paint it on then wait for it to do its job. Probably much cheaper to try the vinegar first.
sorry to break the bad news to ya mate but im still to find sumthin that will complety remove or break down old silicone and im a shopfitter so wer deal wif it all the time and wif the old reno jobs only way to remove it is a razor blade

Yes it most definatley is I use it every day, but would be a BIG no no to put that gear anywhere near a f/g canopy. I would try something like isopropyl alcohol if you can get. Its good for breaking down stuff without being too aggresive
