Live update
Matt DelBrocco and Big Red Toy haven't seen any kangaroos yet. They are way out in front. They said they had to winch SS1 and drove SS2 and Mt Cole Tk took a few goes.
It's wet out here.

2nd Update ... Houston we have a problem....
Car 11 (Dark Green GQ Ute) has rolled on SS1. Occupants OK and recovery in progress just on dark. About 6 teams ahead of them.
2 x Spectator rigs stuck on a track we took out (too dangerous) so I am tipping a cold wet night for them on the side of the hill and we will get them off when SS1 cleared or maybe in morning.
SS2 has winching sections under lights.
Car 10 has 35min lead at this stage.

Hottie's got a new Navi.
Lockee turned up with 2 left hand footy boots. Only person who can wear them is Schafer (most males and females have something he doesn't). So Schafer is Hotties new Navi and Mrs Schafe is manning SS1b.
But Lockee did come out and personally deliver the stub axle I needed - payola. see Itold you he is a top bloke - but no one believed me ...

OK 1/2 time update...
No more incidents on SS1. Most had to winch and stage cleared well after the recovery.
SS2 -
A Big Hilux tipped on the rocks.
Wally winched up without drive.
Gutz was one of 2 or 3 to drive it.
Dirtec - broke 1 x CV and 1 x rear axle on the rocks and when getting out broke the other CV - DOH!
Jamie doing well - he's near the back but doing great on points.
Red Rangie did a supercharger at the start.
Most of the field starting out on stage 2 at about Midnight.
Lot's of angle grinders, welding, CV replacing tyre changing winch rebuilding, rope splicing and another excellent Terry Roberts Feed at half time.
Those 2 cars are still stuck under the power line.

I got some updates from a returned home navigator.
Red Rangie, with my old number plates broke something in the front end and retired close to the start of the second segment.
Apparantly Hottie put on a good show in SS2 with the nose miles high and rocks moving from under the wheels.
You wer right Schaff I did chicken out.

We'rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack
The Lil' mule done us proud.. most of the time..
Too much extra boost after fridays dyno session seen us blow off an intercooler pipe on SS1 and we lost momentum right when we needed it most.. DOH. Had to winch on a drivable stage, that hurt.
SS 2 was a good technical driving stage. A few cars drove it but all with atleast one penalty and some two or more!
We chose to winch to avoid the penalties.
SS3.. Matt and BRT first up, chewed the bee geebies out of the track for everyone else
Dallas got stuck and had a major recovery, i jumped on near the end and helped him recover, Hottie and Steve completed the stage with about 4 winches then the marshals knocked it on the head..
SS4.. Easy drive up some rocky stuff.
Wasn't too bad of an event. To be honest i reckon last year was better. There was a lot of driving for no reward, OH and the bloody piss ant business card sized letters ON THE BACKS of trees. As if it wasn't dangerous enough driving in the dark in drizzling rain and fog looking for stuff, you had to drive against the traffic to have any real chance of finding it.. That sucked..
It's all well and good to organise some tricky nav stuff and hidden clues in navruns, But the pursuit, please make the clues easier to find so it can be a pursuit not a crawl along. Whinge over!
A BBIIGG thank you to all the marshals who gave us there time and supported this event. And of course the Navrun team for the organisation.
And Nic and Brad and any others who assisted with the set up over easter.
A BIG thank you to all the sponsor of the event.
A BBIIGG thank you to Terry Roberts and his helpers who served us up a very welcome chicken parmi and vegies in the middles of the night and a ripper bacon, eggs and bangers breaky.
A BIG thank you to all the competitors, everyone we came across was more than courteous and i never heard any complaints all night.
As for results, They haven't been compiled yet as the marshals from the last SS were still having a well earned rest when we all left.
I'm feeling good though, Not top three good but i think we did ok.
We were the last ones in pretty much and a few of the latter clues didn't have many wheel tracks past them, I hope that's a good sign.
Oh and if you see a black haze hanging around Mt Cole, Don't worry, that's just our exhuast fumes settling
Cheers Dan
EDIT.. I forgot to mention that we arrived late, We were sort of bolting in and wiring up winch solenoids until a bit after 12 on saturday morning. As we left we remembered about the front end alignment that we had forgotten about until then so we poppoed inot to Bob Jane's for a quickie on the way..

Well i'm also home
What a night!!!
We started off first as we were the first team to check in & the last time we saw any other competitor was at waypoint 3 on section 1 so was a rather quiet night regarding traffic!!!
SS 1, as first car the ourselves & the marshalls didn't really know what to expect so was a bit of a shock to us when we had to winch & stupid me grabbing the rope so was a rather bad time for us :(
SS 2, first car again out again, was a hard right turn up round the rocks... We had to winch & kinda took out the cones & apparently the car moved when i was touching it but can't remeber that!!! we drove the top section no worries after dislodging the biggest mother of all rocks!!!
Finshed section 1 at 6:30 so we got back in daylight
DINNER!! mmm... chicken parma's
We had about a 2 hour break & then headed out again into the unknown
SS 3, was about a 150m blast up a loose surface then an off camber turn at the top onto some rocks, we bellied out on the rocks so quick winch & then matt drove up to the next rocks & had a crack but bellied out again so just another quick winch, into the car i jumped & blast up to the finish box & we finshed in just over 6min , so pretty good time for 2 winches
This stage was later called off, why i'm not sure... Yes the track may of become chewed out but i guess thats what happens, some times your better going first & sometimes beter going last as tracks get easier.
I think it would of been quite achievable for teams to have a crack & then do several winches & get times of around 10mins.
Either way, glad we got to do it as was an awesome stage
SS 4, first car yet again, drive down the side track & start at the bottom of a steep hill, first just quick sprint through the rocks & then up into the ruts, We got rocks caught in the bead here, so we backed up & picked another line, drove to the top casually trying to save the wheel & finshed up in 1:49 with no winching
Those bloody trees to drive around
That caution at waypoint 3 in section 2 we ended up hooking up the winch just for a bit of insurance dropping in, did anyone else do the same? i heard people were doing CV's on that hill
We had a ball, i buggered up a bit coming back to camp as we headed down SS 2 to get back & we bent a rim, so changed the wheel on the track & returned back to camp about 5:30am today, got some sleep & now home
Awesome event hobzee & rudi
& Terry thanks for the great catering yet again
Thanks Matty
Out of interest how did people find the navigation?
Did you have to do many winches on route?
How did you find the SS's? carnage?
AND I WANT THE COW BACK!!!!!!!!!it got stolen from us

Another great event Rudi and Hobzee. Well done fellas!!
Well done all competitors and fellow marshall's. It was a top night!
I helped marshall ss2 which we set up as a technical winching/driving manouver up a series of steep, wet, slippery and sharp rocks and ledges. A couple of teams were successful in driving the stage without pulling a cable, however they all incurred at least one penalty for their efforts.
From memory, i think Smithy had the best drive of around 4'33", whilst Lil' Mule would have been close behind with around 4'44". Both of these teams completed without penalties.
Guts drove the stage in an incredible 1 minute 20 something, however he took just about every post and bunting with him. Still, it was groulse to watch!!
Well done to all who attempted the stage and a special well done to those who understood our mindset when we created the stage as a technical winching stage. The first set of rocks were never to be driven without taking out at least one post. Few saw this, but it will pay off in the final standings for those that did.
One hilux tried to take a creative line to avoid a winch and ended up on his side. Hope all's well fellas. Wally done a CV i think, Hottie a CV, and a Disco done a rear axle followed by a CV i think (both on RHS).
Big Red Toy woke me up at 5am while i was hibernating in my bear cave because they took a short cut or something back to camp down ss2 and my swag was in their way. Not happy Jan!! Stick to the course.

The Nav was easy except to say that there were occassions that the route wasn't obvious, looking at the map it was but the map doesn't always portray what's on the ground!!Big Red Toy wrote:Out of interest how did people find the navigation?

We winched once en-route on a hill the caught us out, a little more momentum would have seen us right but we were ambling along (for a change)
the SS's were good
One dented door. and a bent Truck gaurd.
As for SS3. I seen it first hand and i can tell you that after 3 cars attempting it, it was well beyond a ten minute drive with a couple of winches. After five cars it would have been about six straight winches, a burnt out motor and midday before all the teams got through!
That said, we were prepared to have a crack at it if poiints were up for grabs

I only hit 2 buntings, 1 on either side of the track The bottom bunting I sort of expected to hit, the top one (on the right) I simply stuffed up and turned for the corner too soonGQ Bear wrote:Guts drove the stage in an incredible 1 minute 20 something, however he took just about every post and bunting with him. The top section of that stage was by far the best bit of track over the whole event.
I hate winching, its for poofs that love to swing on the nacy wire
I loved the whole event, wouldn't change a thing other then making incentives to DRIVE stuff instead of the crap nacy wire shit that you bloody mexicans love. Oh and make the things we are looking for things other then cards. Its way more fun looking for engine numbers on old cars, or rope hanging from trees, or cans hanging from trees etc etc etc.
Now for the important things.
Who else got the answer for the last question? We did
Does anybody know who finished in what place?
Yup. got that. And by the looks of the tyre prints it was you, us and someone else guts!Guts wrote: Who else got the answer for the last question? We did

Kinda disappointing, I wouldn't begrudge the marshals there rest at all so i'm not complaining that they didn't hand over results, but we ALL had a provision to write our times on our running sheets and some of the marshals wouldn't do it. If the system you had in place was used it may have made things easier Rudes..NavRun wrote:We are waiting for SS4 scores, hopefully by Tueday latest.
