Looking at getting a set of simex 35's ET's just after some feed back on the 2 different widths 11.5 and the 12.5.
most of the winch guys seam to run the 11.5 and some 10.5 I'm guessing cause they dig better in greasy conditions?
I have a LWB GQ which is quite a heavy unit,is the 12.5 better suited as a all rounder on a heavy vehicle?would be better on soft surfaces pea gravel/sand etc less likly to sink/dig there way to china
Does the 12.5 drive better on road?do they last any longer being tripple block?

I run the 11.5's and they're groulse. From memory there was a few comments made about the third centre row actually reducing the tyres self-cleaning effectiveness and handling more like a std mud terrain on rocks and in mud.

wider is quieter onroad, has more tread on the ground so offers mor traction, can 'float' across mud more easily with momentum.
narrower tracks easier onroad and has lighter steering (hardly noticable after a cpl days driving), digs down more in mud to bite into harder stuff underneath.
my pref is for wider, but its down to personal more than not

i have found the wider the better.
cant coment on simex personally as i have never owned a set yet bu a few mates have and they all have 12.5

How long is a piece of string? The 12.5's don't work in NZ which is why almost all comp trucks are using 11.5 or 10.5. If dry then I would think the 12.5 would be better, but I've only used 11.5 and 10.5.

So the tyre size isn't done on actual size? Sounds like a pretty unfair way of measuring something. A 35x11.5 Simex is 35.5" and a 35x10.5 is 34.9. Most competition rules require tyres to fit through a gauge to qualify. ie Winch Challenge rules is 36.5x13.5 and a 36x13.5 Swamper Irok will fit if on 7" wheels.Clarkie wrote:I'm going to price up the 35/12.5/15 see how much more than the 11.5 they are.
Going by tyre web site the 35/12.5 is only 3-4mm smaller than the 36/12.5 which would keep me in 33-35" class in club events,no point being top class with a gutless big tank
