gq 4.2 turbo diesel auto
has any one ever tried to do this? if so how didi it turn out? i thinking of doing this for 4wding. its either auto or 4.8 diff gears. what is every one opinion. thanks for your help.

The GQ I have is a factory diesel auto.
The auto works extremely well with the diesel, more so with it being turbo'd
My previous ride was a GU turbo diesel manual and the GQ drives so much better and some what faster too

I've been doing winch comps with a TD42 turboed intercooled etc etc and factory auto. You couldn't pay me enough to use a manual. You have to learn how to drive again as it is very different to how you drive a manual. ie You don't use engine braking, rather you use left foot braking.brettsGQ wrote:do both the auto will run away down hill then get your mates to teach you how to drive
The auto means that you always have power on. All you have to do is accelerate the motor once and then you let the trans do the work. No worries about lag etc etc.
Turbo deseils just go a lot better with an auto.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)

I love the factory auto in my 4.2 Diesel (aftermarket Intercooled & Turboed).
But my next mod will probably be DBA slotted rotors, and some brake work, the engine braking isn't great, so you do need to use more brake, and so the better you can get them working the better.
But as for climbing, the auto is awesome!
Some lower ratios and I'd be in heaven.
