challenge class rules
4.5.14 body

The body of the make of the vehicle shall be readily recognised and shall be the same manuafcturer as the chassis.

the combination of body and chassis may be updated with body and chassis elements from later models of the same make of vehicle.

taken from revision 7.0

so this would mean my #40 series cruiser;

cannot go on a GQ chassis???

but can go on an #80 or #100 series chassis?????

I don't really know much about comps but I know how to read and your analogy is correct. No Tojo series bodies on Nissan chassis.

yeah that is what i was thinkin. but had thought it had been done before.

so to get coils i can use a latter model landcrusier chassis #80 or #100 because it remains a toyota landcrusier just different models.

i know it may sound like a stupid question.

mate dont worry about it rules aren't really rules, just basic guidelines

EG:
The ARB Warn Outback 4x4 Challenge is a CCDA Class A event and as such accepts vehicles in the Challenge Class only.
Check our supplementary rules for full details as we do have some additional requirements/allowances which are different from the basic Cross Country Driver's Association rules.
Also note the positions on the vehicles which are to be used for car number identification and sponsor stickers. The rest of the vehicle is available for your own decals. Click here to view a diagram of sticker placement.

Challenge Class*

* Tyre Max 37.5 x 13.5
* Diff locks are permitted
* Roof racks are permitted
* Custom suspension permitted
* Cargo barriers must be fitted in wagons
* Roll cage is compulsory
* Harnesses and helmuts are compulsory
* Engine may be modified or changed
* Bodies can be modified and lifted

*Changes to the vehicle must not compromise the vehicles roadworthiness.

the outback lets the QLD cars run, yet there are more than a few that would easily be excluded due to this ruling. and the same goes with nearly all the comps. It is just a constant struggle to see how far you can push it or who you know!

eg, there is nothing in the rules that states the percentage of chassis required or where it has to be mounted (you could have 4" of it where the chassis number is kept in the glovebox) and all it relates is that 50% of the side area in a square is required. therefore all you need is a pair of front gaurds and you have ~50% of a ute!!!! this works especially well seeeing that QLD cars dont go for annual roadworthy's. therefore a (theoretically) resistered moonbuggy is just as unroadworthy as a GQ with fibreglass gaurds or 3"+ lift. it is either legal or not there should be no grey areas.
this is why the rockcrawling (werock/ozrock/xrcc) rules are better as they as much more specific and well thought out.[/b]

so why do we bother going to a CCDA "sanctioned" event????
if we do think there is a legitimate discretion of the rules, the CCDA has no formal tribunal that is willing to put there hand up and ACTUALLY STICK to 'THEIR' rules if a LEGAL complaint was made through the proper channels.

CCDA should take a leaf from others that have done the hard yards and get some balls!!!
Imagine going to a comp, fitting into the rules, winning. then being told you are banned. only to find out that the person in 2nd place who put in the protest had a financial / personal interest in the event or with its organisers.

If that sort of crap is going to be allowed then i think my company should sponsor TT so that i can win!! (as if thats going to happen).

Get your rules right, no grey areas, or at least be preparred for people with a brain to build right to the edge, and dont penalise them!!!
If you are going to charge to sanction an event, then make sure you have a representitive on site to edjudicate over disputes, and make them liable for their discissions as well, motorsport in aus is coming ahead in leaps and bounds, and if you are going to run and organisation that want to control their little part in it then do it properly!!!

sorry about my rant, but i want to know that my money each year isn't just going to "overpriced - insurance brokers" but to enthusiastic 4wd'ers!!!!!!!!!!!
