moving rear shock mounts?

has anyone relocated there rear shock mounts upwards on the diff to gain more down travel and ground clearance?
1hd-fte 5 speed tiptronic 105 series

my mate moved his on his tray back. made it flex heaps more.he moved them to towards the wheels
1993 Gq lwb with added xtra's :) sold

Youll have to move the upper shock mounts up at the same time.

he just moved upper. now there like the front ones just about. still on slight angle tho

why would i want to move the upper. that wont gain more down travel then.

ps its a wagon so i cant use the full uptravel of the shock anyway

space your bumpstop to stop it bottoming out , but then you loose compression. pin them to the centre make a good leanover setup with long shocks

i moved mine, got to watch the cross member that the shocks mount to inbetween the chassis rails, it has a kick in it, just watch that when moving the tops in.

i went i heaps shorter shock and got more travel than the 830mm ranchos

ive move mine up, i also had to lower bump stops to stop shocks from bottoming out. what did you gian by moving the top mounts in? did it effect handleing etc?

moving the tops in, meant i didn't bottom the shocks out. it took a bit of working out, c2 = a2+b2, whatever thats called.

yes handling is affected, but it think with better shocks it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as it is now.

Doesn't doing this also lessen the dampning effect of teh shocks ??????????? or is that total bs on my behalf.

yep re more leverage , run a stiffer valved shock or adjustables (ranchos or td bigbores).

So provided you did something about the coils, you could actually run the longest ranchos possible on say only a 4" lift with just careful placing of the shock mounts and good bump stops ? I mean I know you can do it.. but isn't there a reason for a matching shock/coil combination other than "this is the max length shock before the coil will fall out"
