GOLD Idea Darren.

The Idea of a budget comp for Joe Blow who doesnt want to spend Loads of $$$ and or cant afford it is fantastic.

Well Done!

What about solenoids and batteries? Open as long as it's 12v? eg. I can run 6x1000cca's parallel?
Breathers ok? Bracing? Brake shaft mod? Alternators?
1 alternator only , 12 volts only , 2 batteries , unmodified drum , any genuine warn motor as long as its 12v, breathers and bracing, NO INTERNAL MODS AT ALL!!!

I think its a great idea Darren that has a lot of meritt,it needs to be thought through properly, and the idea of controlled racing would really put th emphasis back on the drivers and the navigators, that would be a good thing to see.

well i went with GQ only as its woudl be a easier way to get it started and to iron any issues out.

Then later on think about the possibiltys of other makes.

It'd be a bit dumb to run rovers, yotas, zooks, jeeps, etc. in a GQ class wouldn't it ;)

keep your formula and run with it. no harm in trying is there. i reckon its a winner

I voted to let other brands in - but as has been suggested, it might be easier to start off with just GQ's.

Bit dumb to limit your numbers by only running one make isn't it?

Just stick with rigs that have solid axle front ends and coils all round from the factory. Then its easy with the rules and mods allowed not allowed as its the same across them all.

If you let any make run then it's CCDA touring class isn't?

Keep it GQ's

I'd love the idea to run other makes for budget racing - but that is only because I personally own something different.

Otherwise I love the idea - hope it all works out.

Cheers
Dave.

What vehicles would you run that have solid axles and coils front and back that run naturally aspirated carby motors? Or would you open it up to any engine type?

80 series and range rovers. What about a coily suzi? don't know if they was carby or not.

I think Iam missing the whole point here you want to run more truck at a winch event running the the same tracks. So after 35 or 40 comp rigs with big HP have torn it up you then want less moded trucks with less experience to go though I don't see that as a great idea.I think the idea of budget racing is great but you are talking at least $15000 if you go from scratch and to me that isnt budget racing. It should be about the class and not manufacture less rules the more ppl are going to participate.

I brought an auto GQ off Ebay for $3900.00 with a factory rear locker.
I can build a cage in it for less than, but we will say, a grand. Thats $4900.
A Second hand winch bar, $500 bucks = $5400. A second hand high mount $1200 bucks and we're up to $6600. Just say i lash out on a spankers front locker i'm now up $8400. 1 set of control tyres and i'm smackin' ten grand with the purchase of the vehicle. To me that's pretty budget compared to what is spent at the moment.
How do you want to keep it any more budget than it is?

Guts.... I can't be bothered looking right through the regs, but how much difference is there between touring class and this proposal with any make allowed?

Just voted on the poll

I just voted for other makes!

BUT

Ive only done this because I could se this being a cheap thing if you used Suzukis as well.

I understand that many wont agree but I thought it may better to have some options for this type of class. Although the more makes availble will then make this harder to control which will make it more money to control therefore defeat the purpose all along to have a budget class.

If it has too be GQ then so be it.

I hope wreakers wont then start charging big bucks for parts then??

So you certified to do the cage to get approved that is lucky for you.
You wouldn't buy a new winch for a winch comp truck I don't know why
cos to me it would have to be a new one at the beginning.
Winch rope and all rigging would be close to $1000 don't forget you need a sandanchor aswell
racing seats harness and underbody and side bars I think $15000 on my part is still convervative.
My budget racing would cage, original driveline, normal shocks,4 inch of travel between sping and bump stop,33 inch tyres any make any model for more ppl to enter.

what you need to remember is that just about every comp truck would start at $50K to build , most would be around the $100K mark and some would be pushing $200K
now to me $10 - 15K is budget racing compared to these figures.
most winches now would be worth close to this!

Although I am a rover man I just voted for GQ only.

There are plenty of cheap gq's around now, and most parts are reasonably priced and durable.

GQ only racing gives you the best chance to control options (and therefore cost), as well as being the best way to show case different driving skill.

The class could still run within existing events however a single vehicle on a track racing on their own does not obviously show driver skill. This class may be more suited to circuit type tracks (and may mean a return to calder park). Two or more teams compete at the same time over the same circuit either starting at the same point or at opposite ends of the track.

To me $15000 is to much for a comp only truck and I know that for some off the w/challange guys haven't spent more then $25000 for the complete truck. You don't need 700HP twin turbo for w/challange but for the outback or cliffhanger which are high speed events you do.

why not put the idea into Zook only racing, I think Sam was talkin of that yr or 2 ago..

cause if you let zooks in then you let this in that in the other in etc...

[quote="1MadEngineer"] Modifying the TB42 head, forged pistons, chromo rods and a very modified carby would easily rev to 8000rpm and running 16:1 comp would give me approx 300-340hp. Is it cus i am trying to cheat or cus i have the bits already and the brains to do it in my back shed?? [\quote]

what fuel you running to stop pinging at 16:1 comp? regular unleaded could be the governing factor here.

See.. Your making it expensive for yourself!.. Within the rules of the class Darren is proposing my scenario was feasible... But you WANT more, not need more!
This is budget, As mentioned alot of winches are worth 15 grand!
