What model Diff?

What model/make of vehicle??

Pin may shear if cross shaft picks up on side gear.
Normally caused by doing wheelies on open diff.

Ive broken a few cross pins on the hilux ARB locker. The early RD01s were bad for it but they improved it a lot in the RD23 model. Its generally caused from engaging the ARB while a wheel is spinning. Actually ive never broken one any other way.

Yep I've done 2 RD01's
Know a bloke who did one only last week and that was a RD23 in the front of an 80.

I think an RD01 only has one end of the main cross shaft pinned to the locker housing. Where as I think (not certain on this) that a RD23 has both ends pinned.

Having the unpinned end drilled and pinned would help with keeping it all together so the broken end doesn't floot in and out hitting the pinion.

I never had this issue in my both RD08 ( old ones .. :D ) but certanly the cross pin could be a issue ..

Did you have any prior issue .. like grind sound or else ?
