Diesel for the same reasons as above..
2000 SR-5 turbo diesel, dual airlockers, bit of a lift, some 15x8 sunnies, 32" bighorns, a few spotties, and a wireless, and a kiddie seat in the back.

got my 1st diesel end of last year, now I wouldn't fuss about petrol anymore, now I would like to get a F-250 V8 turbo diesel or something else like that.

I wasn't too sure about getting a diesel only got it because they are supposed to be good on the diesel which they are but they do have higher service needs but if you can handle changing oil and some filters then that's it pretty much only take it into a shop every now and then for a proper check over and adjustment if needed.

Personally I think a diesel is cheaper to service than a petrol car what with oil, filters, spark plugs, leads, etc needed for a petrol car.

and with some joints now selling veggie/bio-diesel all ready to go, price of diesel might not even need to be a factor anymore.

Old school diesel. Turboed of course. So easy to work on, lotsa torque, water resistant  , sound mad, and smell's better than petrol IMO :D

Diesel.

Torque, fuel economy, no spark plugs, that turbo whistle.

I'd have a diesel daily driver if I could get a decent one.

the things I love about diesel are CRAWL and range; there is no real economic advantage to buying a diesel, sure they use less but the fuel costs more and the vehicle costs more, but I sure like being able to drive 1200km before filling up. that, and the fact that it's as quick as an equivalent petrol powered model (1996 multivalve turbo 80 series versus 4.5 twincam petrol) :)

diesel

Post by DR Frankenstine »

Diesel for sure.
1. They run underwater with no real waterproofing (snorkle of coarse)
2. Cheaper to maintain (servicing) If you do it yourself.
3. They are better on fuel. Sure a diesel on 35's will use as much as a petrol on 31's but put the petty on 35's and see what happens.
4. never any trouble!! they either go or don't go. No in between. With all the petrols ive ever had, or mates when off roading, there is allways some sort of problem. Missing or overheating or running out of fuel.
5. torque for off road
6. If you want POWER get a frigging sports car. Stop digging up the tracks with big v8's.

Good points but point 3 is a bit vague, if you service a petrol yourself i'm sure it'd be cheaper than a servicing a diesel yourself. Plus, diesels need to be serviced more often.

cheers

Diesels don't need to be serviced more often. Some of the new ones have 25,000km service intervals.
Oil cost is similar, filter cost is similar and you save on the spark plugs.

I cannot do that anymore with Biodiesel. No smoke at all.

LoL, I can do a service for $65 to $70 2 gos, ok if I want the dear stuff it's $90 maybe push to $100 a few gos.

15 litres of oil is 2 services for me, I buy a 10 liters of oil for $45 at the cheapest and get a 5 litre for the next time that's only around $20 to $30 plus have spare top up oil if ever needed.

Oil/oil filter is pretty much it for servicing a diesel, have coolant as well that's a few years, and the fuel filter but they last for quite a while before needing a change out same for air filter.

It's really only 3 things, Oil, Air, Fuel, if you can keep on top of that then it'll run good all the time.

Had a Diesel and it gobbled up dollars on bigger pumps, turbo's, cams etc. It stank when pushed hard (could never get used to the diesel smell) and for the dollars I poured into it it went well but after i slotted in the petrol V8 I will never go back to an oiler.
on 36's I get 15-16ltrs per 100 kays and on LPG I get 17ltrs per 100 kays when pushing hard, got 130 usable ltrs ($62 to fill is good too) and I do all the services myself.
I still do heaps of river crossings too.
Love the sound & love the extra power as well.
Cheers
