Rims for 7.50 x 16 on Sierra?
Hey, Just picked up an '85 LWB sierra. Looking at putting 7.50 x 16 M/P Simex Trekkers on, my only dilemma is trying to find a steel rim with the right stud pattern and offset. I went to a few tyre shops (and even some good ones I know) and no one can seem to get a "sunny" in a size that will suit this tyre! The next port of call, I know some LJ's and some early sierras came out with 16's, but am unsure of their strength. The other possibility was to maybe have a "skinny" landcruiser or patrol rim modified, but then there are legalities with this too I suppose, along with the fact the offset is probably up the creek! Anyone out there tried this same venture?
P.S. The reason for wanting a "solid" rim, is for a weld on mechanical beadlock at a later date.

you can run jeep rims i've got a set of 600/16 bar treads on cj5/6 i think paid 50 for the set at locol 4x wreakers but check stud pattern first as they came out with some differant sizes in stud pattern' boner

Lada did a suitable 16x5 if you can find a set. I know the Lada wreckers at Caboolture had 3 a couple of months back. Sorry, didn't check your location.
I nearly went down exactly the same path as this with mp trekkers but went 15s at the last minute when I just wanted to get something on the car for a trip.

2WD 1970's F100 ran 16X5.5 with the right stud pattern, but the offset is not ideal and centre bore is wrong.
They can be offset and bored though.
I am not convinced LJ rims clear the front brake calipers as they were only intended for drums.
Other options:
sierra 1.0's and 1.3 traybacks came with 16's, these are 4.5" wide and look weak but they seem to hold up fine, I have ben running a set awith 34 swpampers on them for a while and plan to beadlock them. They still run true even after some hard trips on a relatively heavy car.
2.0 and V6 2.0 Vitara run 16X6 (?) but can't be mechanically beadlocked as the rim design won't permit it
2.5 GV's have 16X 6.5 rims with a helpful offset for sierras but also can't be mechanically beadlocked.
I would not suggest modifying a wheels stud pattern
Don't get freaked out by how light sierra wheels look - they only have to support 1350kg, not 3 tonne.

hay dano whats your adress if you want to pay postage i'll give you a set off gen suzuki rims with bar treads on them as i have a spare set sitting here. boner59 need a bit of a clean up as they have been sitting for years no thier not my jeep rims

To use lada rims you will have to already have 16" centres to suit suzuki. Even though the PCD is correct, the offset is massively wrong on Lada rims so the track width will be about 8" narrower and the wheels will hit the brakes.
Niva rims are wider than suzuki and suitable for changing the offset of a set of Sierra 16's (which can't have the offset changed enough to make it worthwhile)

GV's run a 16 x 7" rim with 5P offset
The new generation (IFS/IRS) GV's run a 16 x 6.5' but the stud PCD is wrong.

Will prob try to find some cj5-6 wheels as these are prob the strongest rim. Is the offset any good for what I want, I think I would probably want something like a -12 to about -20....any thoughts? If that fails will just chase up some early sierra 16's.

Special service. They're about 15 years old, hard as, chopped up, and a very temporary fix. I run them at 6-8psi offroad with tubes.
They work pretty good for what they are.

Rear - 5.12 vitara rear centre, TT spool, full floating with front hubs (discs on rear) about 100mm over widetrack width, axleshaft material TBC, (but I'd kinda like 300M)
Front - either vitara rear centre or WT Rear, 5.12, air locker, TT Doubletough CV's, stock Trailtough/CTM longside inner axle, 100mm over width shortside axle (custom).
Pretty much have all the parts together, need the shafts once the width is confirmed. I'll be making the jigs for them shortly.
