Few questions 2l swap
Will a 2l-t engine that had an auto box on it from a surf fit my 5 speed manual ln65 hilux? anything i need to know before trying to fit the new engine? the turbo has been taken off aswell so anything i need to do to run it without the turbo? i still have the dead 2l for parts if i need them

Gday . The answer is yes it will fit but its not worth the effort if your not running a turbo , compression too low , better of bolting in a 3L they bolt straight in too and run better non turbo and fly with a turbo. Happy driving

With extra fuel (I am blowing a pretty good cloud of blackness ATM) I am struggling to maintain 105 on the flat. Hills is back to 4th and let it rev, hills that with turbo I could climb at 105-110 in 5th I am back to 75-80 in 4th. (I was running factory boost if 7psi)
I would find a cheap set of second hand tyres and buy a turbo. I am awaiting mine to be rebuilt, I am also attempting to make an adapter to tun an IHI turbo with a bit more modern design than the factory CT20.

Not having a go, I really just am confused thats all . I've all but given up on putting a 15B in the lux, now I'm still searching, and if the 3L 2.8TD really it that good it might be worth reconsidering...
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
My older bro had a non turbo 3L .. was about the same performance wise as the standard 2l-T. A slightly leaned on 2l-T would beat it, but a turbo 3L would leave the 2l-T for dead.

The 3L 2.8litre diesel engine was never turboed at the factory. Turbos usually fitted are from the 2LT engine and aftermarket ones such as garret.Highway-Star wrote:Fly with a turbo? There's a 5L engine, 3litre which was also never turboed.
There is also an engine called 1KZ, newer version 1KD, which were turboed. These are 3 litre engines.

thanks all for u help would go a 3l but just dont have the cash atm and need to get it back on the road as soon as we can got this new engine fairly cheap so ill have money soon for turbo and tyres

If you are going to run more than factory boost fit a bigger bore exhaust 2.25 to 3 inch. Get a boost guage and exhaust pyro (measures exhaust gas temps so you dont melt you pistons/bust heads) if possible fit the temp probe into the exhaust mainifold before the turbo so you get the most accurate reading.
Bleed the fuel system really well, air in the system stuffs you up big time (nothing fatal, just a PITA)
I am sure those more knowlegeable than I will pipe up at some stage.
