I am planning to do the same thing. Fortunately i have a lwb and am planning to sheet metal/Checkplate the bottom half level with side panel, add a roll bar and then tonneau cover and turn it into sort of an extra cab soft top ute. I am thinking this because i also had concerns about how far back the seats could go. I gain about 300 - 400mm, so it should be worth it.
As for your dillemma, i have seen a few fiberglass options going around.
Would not be too hard
Just behind the seats the floor kicks up, about six to eight inches from this point make a bulkhead frame from foor to level with the sides
Attach some sheet steel
If you do not modify any of the existing body it probally will not need to be engineered, even moore likely of you make it bolt in (removable)

you could use a hard top back and make it into a space cab so then u have enough room for the seats just use some perspex for side windows or just cut and shut the window frame
A pic I found somewhere on 'Outers' and knew it would come in handy one day!!!!! Pretty tidy job really. The only way you could tell from this angle is the leading edge of rear wheel arches. Didn't see the one with Boggers.
don't get too tricky to start with. try marine ply and perspex. i think christover used ply and after a coat of paint it looks fine, plus you only need a $14 jigsaw to make it and you could easily do it in a afternoon

worst part about these is the killer blind-spot over the drivers right shoulder.... i had a soft top that did this and got rid of it quick-smart... too dangerous when driving in peak hour traffic =)

I had a damaged fibreglass top, I used the first 70 or 80mm of it to connect to the car, then ran the marine ply up to that. And a bit of bracing fitted. I also have a wall behind seats, of a stronger frame with marine ply. Load safety etc. It is fitted at end of raised bit of rear floor.
I have enough room for me, and I'm not little, but some would prefer a bit more.

I got an offcut of cp cheap from a local supplier.
I pinned it at one end, and forced it round and pinned it again.

Might get some thin sheet steel and fold over like where your old roof has been cut in and extend it a bit or just put something straight down to see if the seat will be alright! When i do this i will have the back open with no tournou cover although i guesse i could just keep my old one!
I like the look better with it open though!

Yeah they are nice corners, I have some serious panel carnage which would be hidden nicely behind them, I will make some very soon.
Suzuki Boy I have done mine with a half wall out of marine ply and a MU Canvas soft wall like you already have. I have no issues with the seats not going back far enough and I used to have a cargo barrier mounted inside the soft wall and still never had a drama. I like it this way as days in the dust in qld get very warm and its nice to be able to pull the wall and doors off and have an airy cab.

Yeah, I kinda vote the bulkhead up to the top of the tub and a softop rear window like Waxheads. I did this with my old LWB and it was grouse - just roll the back window up and enjoy the breeze.
