60series 3rd Gear Issues...

Post by vanzbrown »

Hey all... After reading about most of the gearbox issues in this forum, just wanted to post up something to get some specific help with my 60series (2H) gearbox...

3rd gear is becoming a pain to engage, when going from 2nd up into 3rd... Moving down from 4th back to 3rd doesnt seem to be a problem at the moment...

3rd will go in a bit easier if you really be delecate and slow, but try doing it any faster and it will just make a loud crunch before it goes in...

It is definatly worse when the vehicle has been running for a while, ie. Hot. I really notice it when im on offroad tracks and constantly changing from 2nd to third and so forth, but also around town... arrrgh...

Just wanting to know what the likely problem might be...

Thanks Guys.
Leeroy.

I would try Nulon Oil additive in your gearbox, but would also check your clutch adjustment as you would expect gear changes would be easier when hot.

You can adjust the screw in the pedal .. but the fork movement coul be the same ..

If your MClutch and slave are working ok ..

seaeagle, vanzbrown.
I suspect that it is a syncro problem, but re the Clutch adjustment, if the change is easier when cold, harder when it heats up, it may be the Clutch release free travel, the heat could cause a bit of expansion giving excessive release lever free travel causeing insufficient clutch release making it hard to change gear. Its worth a check.

I would still try the Nulon.

Then again a cousin of mine never had driven a 4wd ,bought a Troopie (94) complained about gear changes had all sorts of checks done, turned out he expected gear changes to be as easy as a car not like the Truck he had purchased. Not for one moment suggesting thats you vanzbrown, but its a good story for a laugh.
