Had a great time and even though i babied the truck a bit still got some good points.

I ran near bald MTR's as well so Markil is right.........they arnt as bad as everyone says in the wet.

Hopefully the bunch of tools on day 1 track 3 will bring there own cars next year so they can teach everone how to drive....they were getting on my nerves after a while.
those tools seem to be there evry year, without a doubt, they need to put up or shut up,
x2

Although a few new shirts appeared....

Well done to Nissan Patrol Club, the event went really well and hey, the presentation was even done in daylight

HUGE performance from Shane Ray in our club who came 1st in Standard, well done mate!!! A big thanks to all our team, we had 3 out at one stage with breakages, but as a club still (we think) scored 1900+ points.

And what about John John!!! Driving an old Hilux banger into 2nd overall (beaten by Mal in the Bushrangie by only 3 points). I know the points are adjusted, but there were some awesome drives in all classes this year.
Cheers, Tony

It seems the people in modified gather more points than any other class with them driving the easier tracks and still getting a heavily adjusted score. Hence the huge numbers of competitors in this class and the abundance of modified cars in the winners mix every year. Don't get me wrong it's still an awesome job to be getting near the top of 100 competitors so I'm not trying to take away from anyone's performance, I think it would be fairer to adjust the open and standard class a bit more to account for them driving the same tracks as the better class, or bring the modified back to the same adjustment as open so they are not as advantaged as they currently are. This is not meant to be a sh1t stir, just throwing around ideas to see what other people think.

Good discussion point Nelso, I see where you're coming from.

One of the issues I see is that there is such a broad range of vehicles covered in the classes (not just modified).

Here are some examples:
* Suzi with 31" tyres, 2" lift vs a GQ with 33" and combined lift of 4 or 5 inches, both fall into standard.
* Hilux with 35's and 4" lift and nothing else, vs GQ with 36" tyres, 6" lift, shortened body, f&r lockers, crawler gears vs Suzuki with 33's and a locker. All in Modified.
* GQ t/d 35's lockers, combined 5" lift, modified front arms, vs Hilux with V8, 38's, big lift, dual transfer cases. Both in Open.

I think the weightings are the way to go, and are close to being the best they can be, without giving each class an advantage/disadvantage over the others. Just because you can't afford the big gear shouldn't mean you can't be competitive; likewise if you can, you want value for your buck. I like to see the big trucks compete, but also want to see some fourbies that are recognisable as genuine, everyday drivers.

Just an opinion....
Cheers, Tony

freakin double posting jinx buddabuddabumbum !

...either THAT or the bloke that asked if I wanted to buy a pair of D60s minutes before we found the panhard rod mount decided to depart from the front diff housing just before winding up in the 1st hole of logs revenge with no RH turning :O

Most likely suspect for the damage was the open/outlaw staircase...

Plenty of booze coming for Redmond for towing the Goatsack back to Windsor and Gonads for the welding action on a Sunday night ! got me home by 230am

Good work fellow BASers...might have to polish my goatturd welds harder for next years trials :)

Not sure which I preferred more...the rain, queuing or flys ? Still, we had fun...

(my post from Monthly)

They REALLY need to change the no back and fill rule at the top of event 2, it is just stupid (IMO)! It in no way eliminates a vehicle due to driver skill or vehicle ability, the big trucks struggle to make the sharp left turn on flat dirt and if they don't they're disqualified. It's just insane when spectators are paying $ to watch and the big boys are being disqualified because of a lack of steering lock on a bit of flat dirt, no wonder alot of the real big toys were no where to be seen this year.

Otherwise it was a great weekend. I was reserve for Discovery Club (practically HiTech 4x4 club) and had to drive 3 events on Sunday in their 80 series which i'd never driven. 85 points on my 1st event (still getting used to the clutch hehe) Trees Revenge (actually HiTech Hi Jinx this year) and drove to the end of the ARB Frame Twister on the Outlaw track (the 80 series was only modified class) :D :D :D

Hopefully next year i'll have something built of my own to get into it... *Looks at the F+R 5 Links sitting out side*

i agree totally you shouldn't be penalized because of turning circle , its not that someone is a bad driver etc , and it sux when your waiting to see a certain vehicle attempt a hard part of the course just to be out for not making the narrow turn that anyone in a falcon could do , the courses should be about the obsticles not the turning circle , we made all the turns only because we put in an airlocker just before the event as we couldn't make the turns with the welded front at willowglen , but not evryone can afford airlockers and even still they don't always disengage straight away , and even though we were running a zook with an airlocker we still found some of the corners very very tight .

as for classes do like course 4 and make everyone run the same line with point adjustments ?

i guess when it comes down to ,its the nissan patrol club that run the event everyone knows their rules and what they say is how it is , if you feel disadvantaged build your rig to suit if thats not fair than look around you won't find many things in life that are .

one of our club members was in open for simply having a buggy leaf set up , is that fair? the rules have been around for ages if its not fair it means you think its not going to give you that much of an advantage , if so take it out or better still dont put it in , whats unfair ? no body has been made to buy or mod their vehicle it is the choice of the owner , if your in it to win it build it to suit otherwise enjoy the fact that your out competing against all types of rigs .

personally i think its a good comp and i left mine leaf to stay in modified class but dont care if we all have to drive the same lines its all just a competion afterall

cheers Jai

I've said it since the first Nissan Trials I went to. You should get 1 free reverse per day. A reverse that you can use where ever you want during that day, once you've used it its gone till the next day.

Would be very easy to police,
Have, say a red card for Saturdays free reverse and then a blue card for Sundays free reverse, each card has your vehicle number printed on it.
At the start of each stage you show the starting official your free reverse card, that is if you still have it.
Once you use your free reverse the official at the end of that stage takes the card off you.
All the current free (allowed) back and fills stay as they are.

In allowing this it would make the whole event run alot more smoothly. If somebody tries to do a reverse when they have no card then they should get a big fat 0 for that stage.

agree Bryan. Track 2 was our first track. When I got to the top the front locker didn't disengage and had no turning. Bombed out at 15 points.

Spewing because it was pretty straightforward and probably would have driven it for a 90-100 other than that we went pretty good except track 4 when my front tyre decided to go flat before the first marker :x and we got zip.

Track 3 was a blast though hit the 100 point tree and knocked it down, the crowd went off , was awesome. Only problem was a branch fell down and smashed my windscreen

personally i reckon there was heaps of room to make the turn, i made it easily with 37s, its just a matter of turning the lockers off the moment you have cleared the hill. bigger trucks can still have good steering, mine still has the same lock it had as standard. its not just about driver skills, its about setting up your rig too.

It was a tight turn but was possible.

I found the turns on track 3 to be more challenging.

How come 3rd place dont get a trophy? I was looking forward to getting something.
