Your probably right Mark maybe a lack of experience on my part but your a comp veteran remember . Hopefully I have learnt from it and won't make the same mistake next year. Good luck at Woodpecker btwMadmac wrote:personally i reckon there was heaps of room to make the turn, i made it easily with 37s, its just a matter of turning the lockers off the moment you have cleared the hill. bigger trucks can still have good steering, mine still has the same lock it had as standard. its not just about driver skills, its about setting up your rig too.crusher060 wrote:agree Bryan. Track 2 was our first track. When I got to the top the front locker didn't disengage and had no turning. Bombed out at 15 points.-Nemesis- wrote:(my post from Monthly)
They REALLY need to change the no back and fill rule at the top of event 2, it is just stupid (IMO)! It in no way eliminates a vehicle due to driver skill or vehicle ability, the big trucks struggle to make the sharp left turn on flat dirt and if they don't they're disqualified. It's just insane when spectators are paying $ to watch and the big boys are being disqualified because of a lack of steering lock on a bit of flat dirt, no wonder alot of the real big toys were no where to be seen this year.
Otherwise it was a great weekend. I was reserve for Discovery Club (practically HiTech 4x4 club) and had to drive 3 events on Sunday in their 80 series which i'd never driven. 85 points on my 1st event (still getting used to the clutch hehe) Trees Revenge (actually HiTech Hi Jinx this year) and drove to the end of the ARB Frame Twister on the Outlaw track (the 80 series was only modified class)
Hopefully next year i'll have something built of my own to get into it... *Looks at the F+R 5 Links sitting out side*
Spewing because it was pretty straightforward and probably would have driven it for a 90-100 other than that we went pretty good except track 4 when my front tyre decided to go flat before the first marker and we got zip.
Track 3 was a blast though hit the 100 point tree and knocked it down, the crowd went off , was awesome. Only problem was a branch fell down and smashed my windscreen

turning circle
I witnessed a number of grumbles about the tight courses and teams not getting there turns in...especially frustrating after waiting so long only to be called out soon after the start!!!!
I'm only a female driver, so what do I know. ...but I can assure you once we replaced the IS on my Vit with Hi-Lux running gear, and didn't even run monster tyres either (32" maybe)................ the turning circle was the pits....and after finding it cramped our style so, on the tight courses @ Willowglen and the Trials, we decided not to bother wasting our club teams time, cos we sometimes didn't even make it to the first obsticle, cos we couldn't get the turn in. Of course it was fine where u could back and fill.
Also because I'd changed to live front end , I was put in the Outlaw class with the likes of the monster trucks
Anyway the decidsion was made to leave it and save the CV's.....so we quit interclub team comps and just carried on with the others.
At that stage Eugene owned a Rangie too so I knew how good it could be...his truck could turn on 5cents! awesome!

Not anymore he now runs the Landcruiser offset and has all his steering set up right. The only difference between his and yours is you have the GU box.Madmac wrote:you just need to adjust your steering links and fit bigger offset rims (i think you run GU steelies) so you can get max lock each way
I could have stopped up there for coffee and I still wouldn't have got my truck around there. The only difference between my truck and some of the others running 42s was I didn't have front dig which would have got me around the corner.
It's a shame that such a silly corner was stopping the big trucks before they had a chance to do anything challenging.
Cheers Mick.
TIGHT TURNS
I agree totaly..... i was unable to make a few of the turns early on in stage 2/3 and was not able to get to the sections to have a decent go, it was very annoying becuase i would been able to drive the harder sections, just unable to get there,
its as if they punishing people that dont have air lockers, yeah ok so 4x4 comps are designed to test skill and the set up of your truck but when you cant make a turn 10 meters into a stage and your out because of it where's the fun in that!!!!

mad mk patrol go hard or go home
I don't think tight tracks do test the driver's skill as much, as you aren't choosing your line, it's chosen for you. I would like to see, for something different, a wide open area that allows drivers to choose from many different lines the one that suits their 4b set up and driving style. Some drivers just put the right foot down and hope for the best while others crawl their way up carefully placing wheels and controlling tyre speed for maximum grip. Wider tracks would really test driver ability rather than the flog it till it breaks mentality that often happens now. Also different cars suit different driving techniques, this could be why we see so many Patrols as they stand up to the crash and bash approach better than other makes, so opening things up might broaden the field even further.
What's the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.

just like offroad images willowglen photo comp ? nothing has happened on that site since the 15/10/07
i thought it was a long shot for the results to be up in 1 week considering the last couple of years has been ages before they were up .

Yeah we had fun. I was really happy with Willowglen. Didn't drive as well at the trials.
Ended up with 515 before adjustment which ends up at 592 after the % is applied.
I think I had 442 after adjustment in 2005.
I was the last car to drive event 2. Ended up with 85points which was easily my best effort for the weekend.
Can't wait till next year.
Hoping to get rid of some panels before then.
Regards
