Whine coming through speakers

Post by Ben »

Hi lads,

I recently installed a Painless wiring aux fuse box.

It's all hooked up perfectly, but now I can hear a whine coming through the speakers (even with the radio off), matching the revs of the engine. Now I've returned the radio's power connections back to original (bypassing the new fuse panel) and it's still there.

Any tips? What should I be looking for??

Cheers,
Ben

its definately an earthing problem! ive got it, my mates have had it, pretty common on audio/visual type systmes which have been done at home etc... a cble is touching something, earthing out at a connection etc.... check the full circut out closely - including speaker screws! (if they are metal speakers the earth can be where the speaker touches the screw touching the body! sneaky lil thing!

What I don't get is the fact I didn't touch the radio wiring!

Nah, that's the first thing I checked. The one thing I do know about is audio and power, but only $$ club/DJ systems, not car stuff. I'll just have to recheck everything and check the amp's ground and a few other things.

I had a weird 1 tday a customer came in with the same prob in an old chev the earth strap from the bonnet side of the hinge to the innerguard side had been broken, as soon as i fixd it the problem was gone, although this may not be directly associated with the fuse box. Just go around and have a look at all the earths and use a clip lead and try across the bonnet hinge... just a thought .

Double check with an multi meter that your earths are working properly, Sometimes with old audio bits or even cheap audio then dont have a niose supressor, and this can be excentuated by bad earths, yes you might have put a nice connection piece under a screw or bolt but that isnt always enough,
Try finding seperate earthing points for each bit, and as stated bearlier in this post, sometimes its not audio at all but sometimes a bad earth on the body.
I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.

Check earths both on radio and your new thing... I would redo the earth on the radio.

You can also buy decvices that are supposed to stop the whigne...i cant think of the name of them though

Thanks fellas, I'll get my head under the bonnet and check all earths, it must be something I've done as I've never had the problem before.
