WA Vehicle Modification Details

Found this today regarding vehicle modification. That means everyone who has a lift (made up of either Body, suspension or Tyres) can not exceed 2" without having a lane change test. This means 80% of WA 4x4 would need to do a lane change test. Because the first thing people do is put in a 2" suspesion lift and bigger tyres. This would put you over the limit

The intent of this testing procedure is to objectively determine the road holding ability and handling characteristics of vehicles. It is applicable only to vehicles with GVM up to 3.5 tonne.

yep, short maverick, was about 98" wheelbase when I did the test.
No swaybars.
One thing to watch out for... Get some nice, firm, NON-ADJUSTABLE shocks. Because they like to do the test in a worse case scenario, maening that if you pass it, they'd like you to do it again with your shocks set as soft as possible. I was told this was to test how stable the car is if it was stolen while set up for off-road use??

If they did introduce national codes then it would have to be more inline with what NSW/VIC have. But may require greater testing/engineering. ie lan change tests for all states not just WA and ACT.

God damn, I hope they do soften the rules up here in QLD...

It sucks, hereing about lift sizes and tyre sizes that you guys can run... I want some of that action here...

Building a Middie Cruzar at the moment, not sure if I should wait until March, before I really start...

i have a Calbah front end in my Rangie and a big lift and i know it's going to be fun attempting to get a WA rego sticker.

I have heard some scary stories and there have been quite a few roll overs with people attempting the lane change test but i know a few people who have passed the test with some pretty wild 4x4's.

Theres not just 4wd stuff, theres truck max weights change in different states, theres bike rules, theres HEAPS... its a massive thing to do, probably why its taken 40 years to come around to..

I think its scarey, they could all go with Qld Rules and we are all fubar.
