Tacho

Post by Patroldude »

In order to have a tacho dash you must get the dash and the sensor in the front of the motor near the crank pulley and injection ump case. Mq's never came out in turbo and yet still had sensor hole covered by plate - however upon attempting to fit the sensor in the hole he hole was found to be too small... its ok with the Mk diesel as they introduced the TD varient with Mk's and enlarged the hole from factory.....

There are aftermarket tacho kits for a diesel that runs off a sensor but they are rather expensive at over $450 for tacho and sensor....

If you try to get factory sensor form nissan its gonna put you back about $197 I think it was....

Hope it helped.

Shark,

Do a search on this topic mate.
There are previous threads on this.

I even remember asking the same question back when i was just starting on patrols.

As patroldude said, u need teh sensor that goes into the front crankcase.
and that wont fit into the Stock MQ sd33 without mods.
MQs were never released with the tacho on deisels. Only the MKs, and even then it was far more comon in turbo diesels than std SD33.

aftermarket kits arnt worth it.

Personally u dont need one. SD33s will rev quite high/ I can garuntee u that u can safely push it harder than u have thus far.
And when they hit there rev peak, all they do is wont go any harder no matter how hard u try, and start getting hot.
in a petrol motor when u hit redline they clunk and kill acceleration.

they really arnt worth the effort. I put a petrol tacho Into My SD33 diesel dash for the V8 and it works fine, so the dash doesnt need mods as it supports the petrol tacho. But u will need the deisel tacho and sender for this job.

$197!! I hope its not a fucked sensor thats stopping my tacho from working :(

Does anyone know how to test the sensor, does it put out volts, milli-amps or is it variable resistance?

Yes there are after market kits avail, that run off your alt. but if you have a mq diesel it is probably 24vlt. marine sights are the best avail. for tacho in 24vlt.

I had the same problem! Pulled the tacho wires off my turbo motor but it doesnt fit in the hole on the non-turbo!!:(
so its not really worth getting a after-market one??

I'm wrecking a turbo diesel MK. I'll look if it has the sensor in the front. Not sure
