I know you are all bias one eyed jap crap 4x4 supporters here but if you really wanted a one design controlled class racing it would have been worth considering the existing classes in the rest of the world
Jeepspeed in the US http://www.jeepspeed.com/ has done exactly this for off road racing (baja style) but a few minor rule mods could see the same for winch style events.
XJ sells for around 5K to 7K they have huge range of after market parts, good power to weight ratio with a EFI inline 6
I am sure there is similar events in Europe for land rover also

As someone building a GQ this class sounds great. A couple of questions though, just so I dont go building something I have to unbuild in order to get a race.
-Can the carby be modified in any way?
-What changes can be made to the standard ignition system?
-Can coil cabs race? as long as the compliance plate says so they are still a GQ.
-What will we be allowed to do in the way of ratios/lockers/transfer gears etc etc. Do they have to remain standard or are they open?
-Door trims are to stay. Mine where slashed when I got the car and are not checkerplate, do I have to source originals?
- Does the interior have to stay? The rooflining in mine was slashed also and was going to be removed for a cage install. The carpet will get pretty stinky after a few mud runs. i cant see it being a massive performance gain without it.
-Do you know what 'control' equipment we are going to have to use yet, bar, tyres and susp? I dont want to buy something that might have to be removed!!
-Are the wheels going to be regulated? Will Toyota offset sunraysias be a maximum offset? my thinking is this will stop crazy offset rims and wheel spacers.

Carby can be modified but must remain factory carby
Electronic ignition can be fitted (any type OK)
Coil cabs can race as long as its a coil cab from the factory
lockers and ratios in diffs and gearbox will be open
door trims ,roof linings and floor coverings must remain, smooth floors and no rooflinings have a RWC issue and door trims will help keep the 'stock' look
No control equiptment as yet
rims are unsure at the moment, would like to say open , but want to save that 3k worth of walker evans rims
will get feedback this weekend at ateco then move forward with this.
we have been exploring an offroad class based on similar set up, using off road racing rules, and stadium racing is making a come back as well.
Perhaps if we can put heads together, i have afew suppliers who would like to be involved already as well, and the vehicles, if done right could compete in many fields over a year.
We are also looking at owning 5 and leasing them out.

Once the rules for such a comp class are finalised, then the people that enter will have their
individual driving/navi talent on display.......and the best will win.

CCDA is taking suggestions for new rules and we have discussed a new class. something like off road racing that has a production class and a modified class. these classes should be run together and production class should be looked on as a class and not a stepping stone to the modified class.

As it says it is open to any Make and model, how many vehicles have commercially available high mount winch front bars available to them? If they don't then does this mean bars can be modified and if so, how far?

I think those rules are very good.
Only one I don't agree with is the winch must be a high mount.
Lots of people don't want to spend big dollars on a winch. I don't see a problem with having a low mount. You can still have just as many dramas with high mounts. Infact they burn out motors a lot more then low mounts do.
Plasma is another thing that just adds to the cost and is an un-needed extra cost. There is nothing wrong with using cable if the safety measures are seen to like dampers and gloves and these are in the rules. Cable is just heavier and there for a disadvantage to those running it.

the issue with low mounts is they are so slow. these cars will be running in the same stages as the challenge cars , they need to be as fast as we can get them without going over the top. the high mount with 12volt and a 6hp motor is still very fast.Guts wrote:I think those rules are very good.

The Plasma is a saftey item. I think we will see all steel cable banned from comps soon. It has been in NZ and is being pushed here.

sounds good, there will be complaints about no cut downs, no turbo and no glass panels, but keeps costs down.
