2.8 intercooler

Post by 93lux »

I have read alot of posts from guys that have put intercoolers on 2.8d hiluxs with ct20 turbos on them but no pics/info. Can anyone post pics and info as I wish to fit one and am lacking an idea on how to start.

Thanks

Mine's fitted with a full Safari Kit, have some pics which i'll post up tomorrow. Front mount between grille and A/C.

Not sure if Safari would just sell the cooler but it seems like the easy, neat and simple option.

Only a small section of the grille needs to be trimmed and one hole in the radiator support trimmed out with a die grinder.

Thanks look forward to the pics. Is there much power gain in fitting one?

Just a thought, have you looked at changing out the right angle bends for those with a little more radius?

The 90 degree bends would most likely come close to negating the increase in power from your cooler by way of restriction

Yeh, totally agree, how you see it is how i bought it. Money willing i want to scrap the 180 degree sharp bends with a tidy stainless steel rolled bend set up.

take a serie 4/5 rx7 (mazda) coller (about $50) cut the long small outlet back to about 1.5" from the tank.

cut the bend on your intake back so it is vertical (i.e. cut off so the hole is facing upward. then clamp the cooler in (add bonet scoop too!)

no piping to lose efficiency, the cooler mounts on an angle (who cares) and you have to remove to get to the oil filler. (big deal!) done, will post a pic when i get home.

hope that helps.

You would need the intercooler with the pod air intake sitting right near the exhaust

What is the 13B intercooler mounted too? Would it be better mounted off of the engine somehow to move when the engine moves.

If you look at it from the front there is a mount on the right hand side underneath it to the engine so it can move with it. Bit hard to see in the pics.
