I will use the rb 30 whilst i'm building the tb42. The gear box is making a few bad noises. Will probally cost me $500 to replace plus getting it in and out which means either paying someone or highering the equipment to do so. The carbs on these are not so good on hills. so this would need modifcation probally easyer to swap to injection which will cost another $500. Assuming the engine does not go bang all good.
Then i'm still stuck with an engine that I personally do not think is up to the job of hauling a gq wagon around.
The Tb 42 will cover my needs for entry racing or general wheeling.
Once the tb 42 is in. I have a strong gearbox and big radiator. Probally a decent exhaust too. All of these components will be usable should the need for a more powerful engine arise. I should also be able to sell the tb 42 for more than a rb30 if upgrading.
Can anyone recommend an engine builder to help build the bottom end. I live near the glass house mountains happy to travel to Bris or the sunshine coast.
Where can I get a cam from too.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

mate simple and cheap rebuild stock, maybe cam, whack a computer in it EMS, Haltech and your away racing, remember they are looking at running standards class in 2009 of Xtreme events and CCDA have a standards class just can't remember the proper name. Derek and Skip and just runnin standard TB42 carby in there EFS winch truck and it works fine. will be competetive with this combo if good enough driver and will probably last for years even if you abuse it.

x2. people new to the sport are always looking to go bigger and faster motors . when weaving in and out of trees you dont need 500rwkw. faster with less power as will be smoother. i suggest running what you have till you can drive every inch of your power then upgrading. you can still podium place finish with a carby 4.2 less than 100kw if your driving skill and navie are prepared. just my 2c

Just had a look at the WM motor sport web site looks good. Will give them a call soon.
Shed is almost built. Looks like i'm going to be busy building soon.
Think i will rebuild the bottom end standard, maybe get it balanced.
Put a cam in new valves, maybe get a nice 3 angle valve job.
Skim the head to raise the compression
Match the inlet manifold to the head and give it clean up.
We have got a u bute madrelll pipe ender at work so think I will have a go at making some extractors and exhaust system.
Run a standard computer first and update to a fancy one if need be, or if ebay sucks me again.

Thanks for everyones input.

if your looking to increase compression, shave the block not the head.

Yea a rb 25 could be used. the heads can also be swapped onto the rb30 bottom end. Not to sure how tuning one of these engines for bottom end power would go. Then its still attached to a the weaker rb30 gearbox.
Hazard was talking about getting a converter made up for mating the rb30 to the larger gearbox.
Could work out to be a very potent package. Could work out to be a money pit.
Think i will stick to TB motors and give the RB range a miss.

You should be able to buy a TB4.5 or even 4.8 for 4 grand if you shop around. Put it in and go racing.

If you can find me a tb48 for under 4 grand with the bits to make it go I will buy it.
Been trying to get a tb45 but its in NSW and been getting nothing but huge quotes for shipping. ie $800-1200.
Going to get this Tb42 built for the moment.
