Turbos

Post by ToNkA »

Can you turbo an old engine?

I have 275,000 on the clock and the engine is running perfectly.

Will I need a rebuild for a turbo or what, I can get a cheap turbo for the 2L but I dont think the engine will cope?

look at it this way.

put a turbo on it. if it blows up, you were going to rebuild it anyway.

open your fuel up

i running a 2H

was running a 3B :finger:

just open your pump right up and you'll have enough boost if you redline it, every single time you shift you can think, if i hold this for a few more seconds, i could grenade the motor

Have the injectors removed and the break-off pressures and spray patterns checked, the pressures can be upped at this point if required. A pyrometer is a good addition to make when adding an aftermarket turbo so if you are going to run fairly high boost and fuel settings you can keep an eye on the exhaust gas temps. Check your radiator for internal flow and make sure the external cooling fins are clean and free from bugs, grass and Toolangi mud. A large free flow exhaust (3") is good for performance and keeping EGTs down. You can get away without a muffler on most turbo diesels as the turbo effectively blocks a large amount of noise. The less back pressure on a turbo motor the better they run. Just bolting on a turbo will not get the best out of the motor in the short term or the long term. If you try and treat it as a complete package you will get a much better result. Just a few things to think about.

hey there, new here

I bolted a turbo on my 2h Troopy last year with 350 000 on the clock.

It transformed the vehicle but did accelerate bottom end wear.

..so when i blew the head a few months ago a reco motor was the way to go.

I run on 9psi. I have had it up to 12 psi and the difference is huge but geez it sucks the fuel.

Does anyone know anything about the turbos at www.motorshed.com.au in the parts 4 sale section, $295 sounds cheap for a turbo, or $395 4 a supercharger even better :D

would u b able 2 bolt this onto a hilux 2.8d easily, and then buy a suitable exhaust system? or would there b heaps of stuffing round with fitting it

thanks

Ok, now a question about turbos........

What to look for when buying one?
How do you know is its good or not?
Working or not?
How a trubo work if not a bearig type, or vice versa.

INfo please..
