got 37" for my lwb sierra need help
got 37" for my lwb sierra need help
hey guys i need some help ive recently bought a lwb zook and she's got some mods. lock rear 29's winch custom bar's. but ive bought some 37" x 14.5" and i was going to put them on hilux lockers. ive figured that i have to do a spring over and lift the body but i dont know how much i have to lift the body buy and what sort of spring over kit to buy or shocks. i was going to cut the rear of the shell of and build a custom tray inside the wheels and cut the front archers out so clearance isnt a problem but i think the i have to keep the weight lower to the ground has any body got any advice please?
I seriously think anyone who can manage to fit these tyres on a zook properly will not need to be asking questions on here. I agree that most if not all of the driveline will need to be binned and upgraded for stronger/larger stuff, and by the time that's all done the chassis may even need bracing to cope with the extra loads required to run those tyres. Seriously those size tyres on a zook is Tuff truck competitor territory and should be left to those in the know. Sell them and buy some 33's or smaller and you may have a chance.

I wasn't insulting you either. My point was you may be in over your head, engineer or not. Like it has been said perhaps seliing the (highly sought after) LWB zook and getting a hilux would be better. 37X14.5 on a zook will require work that will make it resemble nothing like the car it one was anyway. Have a look at some of the zooks in tuff truck running similar sized or bigger tyres and gauge the work involved, In the end you will be pretty much building the car from ground up.
Oh and BTW JIC skyline is niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to come across like that. I love skylines, sounds interesting have you got a link to some details on it, I googled it but came up with nothing and Jic magics site doesn't mention anything about Australia at all.kurtzook wrote:i use to build race cars have you heard of jic australias fastest road driven 32 gtst skyline i use to build stuff like that but they took my licence off me so i wanted to get into 4wding after going out with a mate if u want to post something to pay me out please find somewhere else and some one else to do it to all i wanted was some ideas and help

If I were you, I'd go and look at the vehicles that placed 1st, 2nd & 3rd last year in the comps you want to enter.kurtzook wrote: im keen for a ground up project ive got the room and the tools just know the basics bout 4wd though
That will give you a good idea of what works and how much fabrication/money/time is needed to prepare a winning car.
if you plan anything with real power you'll end up throwing the chassis away any ways, they're simply not design to handle anything that much. Or you'll spend more time reinforcing it then what it would take to build a new chassis from scratch.
There certainly is some very tuff sierras getting around, have a look here

and these are the small tyres
What ever happen to Big Zook? did it sell?

redzook, Markil, ZOOK60 have all put 37s on their zooks. From memory, Redzooks was daily driven.
The short version on how to do it is allow plenty of wheel base (100in) and guard chopping. At least go lux diffs with longs but I would probably go 60 series cruiser diffs if it were me. Use lux rear leafs all round and you will need to sort out some power steering too. A brake upgrade should be mandatory if you're going to be running large tyres and a powerful motor too.
You could also link and coil it but thats another thread entirely.

Exactly what I was going to mention..v840 wrote:redzook, Markil, ZOOK60 have all put 37s on their zooks. From memory, Redzooks was daily driven.
Redzooks
Chopzuki even ran 44" TSLs on a tintop, his was coiled & linked though. There was a buildup of the same car, now sold, on another forum getting a 1UZ v8 dropped into it, I think i remember reading somewhere it weighed not too much more (if not less!) than the zook engine!
Also rocbox is running 36" iroks on his tintop and i think simcoz is running the same on his soft top (or maybe they are a bit bigger cant remember)...
of course any vehicle of this calibur will need to be trailered around, you wouldnt be able to go driving it on the street.
search for similar buildups both on here and US forums, you can see how much work is involved in such a project, then if you still really want to do it, DO IT!
(but you will have to post a build up in members!)

Zooks are for people that aren't afraid of angles and who have nothing to compensate for

I'm running 36" tyres on my car (ZOOK60's old car). The 36" tyres do rub a little on the front. I had the same tyres on my old red car with only a 2" body lift and shackles, this did have LOTS of cutting.
A 14" wide tyre is going to be very hard to cover. You'll need additional diff width (or very offset rims) so your tyre is going to be out there.
