Lots of stuff discussed that will be tabled & discussed at a comm meeting and changes that will be made will be in version 8 of the rules to be released very early 08. I believe the events were all in the CCDA newsletter and the 1st event is in March.

ccda class changes
Question?....surely these class changes will not apply to THIS YEAR's ccda covered events?....
Especially with OBC overseas competitors, who have prep'd their trucks on present classes/ rules, about to load their comp trucks into Containers.....for the long 2+ month trip over to oz!?
It seems each year a similar thing happens with the rules.....which gets everyone in a spin..... .....

I think they do but as that would be a standard configeration motor set up it would pass as long as it was in standard config. You cannot add, modify or change anything in this regard. I belkieve this to be correct but will stand to be corrected.ads80 wrote:dont some gu's come std with intercoolers??????

Re: ccda class changes
The rules are done at the start of every year and I thought would have been out at the start of Jan Anyway there were not many changes to Challenge Class which is the only class at the OBC so all those that built their trucks to the current rules should be ok. All I hope is that they did read the rules so the same thing as last year doesn't happen!!cebarry wrote:Question?....surely these class changes will not apply to THIS YEAR's ccda covered events?....

Celia,
I posted wrongly moisleading you Last year both challenge & tropy competed. This year with no CCDA trophy class (there is a lesser modded production class) I believe all cars will fit into challenge class which is pretty much the same as last year so all the international teams coming over will be ok if the have built their cars to the rules. (unlike last year )
Hope that makes more sence and hope they release the rules very soon.

The International Teams I'm referring to are the Safricans, they have always followed the rules in prep,g their comp trucks......this year 4 teams will be shipping out in a couple weeks ....2 are Challenge and 2 Trophy, so it would be good to know they won't face any last minute changes that's all.

I reckon the 2 that were built for last years CCDA "trophy class" may need to contact Mike Smith (CCDA pres) and get the specs for the new "production class" to see if they still comply. It'd be a pity if they came all the way out here thinking they were in a lesser class and didn't have to compete against the challenge class cars, when infact they were in the same class. If they'd known this when in South Africa, they may have made different choices about vehicle set up.
I'm not trying to stir, just trying to inform. Hopefully this kind of issue can be sorted.

What about diff swaps... i know Matt was elevated to challenge for having 60 series diffs under a 40. I have GQ's under a rangie, would this affect this class?Specs for NEW Production Class include:

It all seems crazy cos they built their trucks according to the rules and regs given to them to compete this year.....changing the rules 4 months out isn't on! what u reckon?

Yes you still need Rollover Protection.
4 point for Vic Winch. 6 point for Engel Series, Cliff Hanger, OBC, Alpine etc
As for diff swap.
Diffs must be origional for the make & model of your truck

It is ultimately up to event organisers what rules they use. A few Ateco's ago they used the prior years rules which was confusing for many. The rules are constantly being updated and a released at the start of every year. As I previously posed, I am only trying to inform people of waht is happening. I strongly suggest you or the South African's affected contact The OBC organisers to find out what the go is.
