Linc, you have not considered 3 words in rule 6.8.3 (well not in the way we considered them anyway). "non standard factory" - (as I remember the committee meeting discussion) was meant to rule out the grafting of factory fitted hydro assist steering out of some earthmoving equipment vehicle or truck. Rule 6.8.5 states that "Full hydro steering shall not be used." If we wanted to rule out hydro assist and full hydro we would have just plainly stated "Hydro assist or full hydro steering shall not be used". In trying to be more sussinct we have actually made it more confusing and that is why we will need to ammend the rules - but that is also why we are best placed to interpret the rules until this occurrs. (in retrospect we should have writted "DOT approved hydro assist steering is allowed")
Pete it is pretty bloody clear how the rules read regardless of how the "club or committee" interpret them and I pitty anyone that has built their 4x4 for this event and WAS going to use hydro assist and did not as a result of HOW THE RULES READ.

As the rules stand anyone that turns up with hydro assist should rightfully be turned away on one hand (YES THAT IS HOW THE RULES READ TO EVERY SINGLE HALF INTELLIGENT BEING) yet on the other hand you say that it was meant that earthmoving shit, etc can't be grafted to suit..............well as the rules read it is a MESS..........you say it was meant that earth moving shit could not be grafted yet even on your interpretations of the rules it can if is standard earth moving shit.

As the rules read NONE STANDARD means not standard to the vehicle and hence if THAT vehicle did not come with hydro ASSIST then it SHALL NOT run hydro ASSIST in the comp now you say if it is fine.

So if I was to graft a STANDARD earth moving setup to a 4wd that would fit within the clubs rules?????????

This whole thing is like a car crash..........you know how it is not funny but you can not bring yourself not to look laugh and go fark you poor prick that gotta hurt

The requierment for DOT approvals was also intended to stop the rules from being interpreted differently by different committees.
Pete effective what has happened is a good event has been fawked :!:

I had need to speak with the head of Suncorp insurance the other day (regarding truck insurance) and guess what................

Suncorp (which many competitors are) WILL NOT cover any vehicle under their third party rally extension that is not in "a roadworthy state" which includes large tyres (they are willing to put this in writing if you wish????)

We all know what this means...................and at the end of the day the insurance companies have more money to fight a death (I hope it never happens) that a bloody 4x4 club. All that has gone on is the club has fawked a good event in the false belief that they are covered should the shit hit the fan which is not the case.

I am of the firm belief that the club should have just upped the entry fee to cover the appropriate insurance such as OBC, XRCC, Superior All Terrain, etc pays

Linc, when are you going to move on with everyone else??
When you run your own comp better than TT you might have a leg to stand on.
Dont keep crapping on about it becuase your pissed off that you sold your pos and cant compete.

My POS complied with every current rule apart from the battery isolation switch which needed one wire run. I did not find things fun anymore and realised I would have more fun with my wife and kids ( yes believe it or not) .

Mate cause I am no longer affected (and never was if I spent 20mins on wiring - plus I can write my own mod plates if needed) I just feel for those that have built or redesigned their junk around rules that are not enforced as published and for what.........................at the end of the day you are not covered anyway in the event of a death, etc

Are you that new to it to think that a death as a result of an incident mid event has not occurred already and are you naive enough to think it won't happen again?????????
Cheers

I totally agree with you on this one, I had to do alot of work on my truck to get it to comply, had to get a whole new steering set up and an engineer to mod it aswell. Even though its plated now, if I got caught driving it on the street by DOT they would look at the mods that have been done and tow it on the spot.

And yes I think in the event of an accident, insurance would not cover because (even I know) overall my truck would not totally comply with DOT.

Well Nick and I are not coming to this round, simple reason we are giving other comps a go and also it's sad to see the moral of the comp go down hill. Bring on the old days , but we may have a crack half way through. This will be our first missed round since Tough Tracks has started. Good luck to all that is competing. We may give you all a chance now  :D

Mayhap i should be clearer...

The largest noise is coming from persons who have already declared that they have no intent to meet the new rules and don't wish to compete in this event any longer. Their choice, their right to walk away.

However having made the "ultimate" protest by removing their money an vehicle to other pastures, it is my opinion that they don't need to continue to nitpick what they have left behind.

You're right, i drive trophy, my choice. I don't run as often as i'd like, my situation.

This will not be my first missed round, nor likely my last but it is with regret each time i do. My respect to those who can manage their funds, commitments and priorities to get out more often and to those who are more experienced in the scene than i, may your leadership and behaviour meet the standards that respect implies.

Hi All, Jane and I will be there with bells on. I am totally pumped and can't wait to do my first comp for the year. Unfortunately though my next one isn't till May considering the Superior Allterraine are rebuilding their tracks. I love all the comps and i know how hard it is to please everyone, unfortunately it is impossible to do, no matter what rules are in place. Good luck everyone and have fun.

Hi Tony,

we have 30 confirmed (paid) already and we always get more on the day. I have had a number of calls from competitors new to the Tough Tracks event and they are as keen as mustard. We have even been contacted by a 4WD Magazine who is keen to sponsor the events for 2008 - so it would appear that even the negative feedback has not dampened the event.

Speaking of dampening the event - Janowen Hills has only had 40mm of rain recently which has been enough to settle the dust. All the tracks are still open.

Hope to see you up there.
