6.5 diesel to GQ
Righto boys and girls, am seriously looking at N/A 6.5 chev diesel for my dual fual GQ and am looking for first hand experience, pros and cons and mileage etc. Will be getting Brunswick to do it and they do radiator clutch and HS diffs etc.

Went for a run in one when I was looking to do the conversion, this bloke was Brunswick 'agent' in Melbourne.
Stunning to drive, very torquey, nice sound, good fitment, I was pretty much sold, and had a price in my mind as to what I expected it to be worth. But quote came in at $23k, probably 8k more than I had expected.
I was thinking of fitting to a GU 2.8 (cheap as chips these days) instead of the GQ.. That price was drive in drive out engineered with fully reconditioned motor from Brunswick - thats using a GQ 4.2 Auto..
What motor and box is yours now? It makes a BIG difference in price too.
He wasnt keen to fit it to an 'older' box, due to power issues, the GQ Auto needed to be modded by Rodney at Wholesale autos too.
Ended up too rich for this black duck.

they're a great engine but i would go for a turbo model over N/A if funds permit

Mate my dads best mate has a brunswick chev diesel in his troope and its turbo goes lyk a shower of shit he pulls a 3 tonne boat at 110kms in 5th no probs. My mate has one done in a GQ patrol and its turbo charged it farkin goes and its the same goes really good.
Get it done it may cost a lot but u will reap the rewards seriously lol.
Its good for towing, 4wd and everythin else. But get it on gas and its cheap to run and u hve more power as well.

I'm quite happy with mine. Its a 6.5 turbo in a GQ. lots of toque and power to boot. I was running 3.5 diff gears and that was great, until recently , these gears where very suited to this motor as they don't rev very high. 4.6's would be great of road but on the hi way it would be revving its tits off.
I could drive at 60 km/h in 5th no worry's, (5 speed std box).
also set up a 100 series, 6.5 turbo, And it goes great!

Body lift hindered my turbo installation. I have a 2"body lift and the turbo exhaust manifold hit on the inner guard shocker tower, so I cut it out and lowered the shocker tower on the LHS.
The fuel economy I get is about 17l/100km, (My driving style!) running 285's
The cruiser gets down to 13 to 14L/100km. on 265's ( 3.7 diffs)
I was told that I would have over heating trouble! 2 years on and I'm still waiting for this to happen. I run a alloy 2 core radiator from a GMC.
A lot of my parts came from Ebay US, cheep as.
there are a few places that sell motors and other parts, Power on Diesel in Esk QLD are a good soures, as is Brunswick WA. and Linquip QLD.
