Which Electric Fuel Pump?

Post by vanbox »

I'm wanting to install an inline electric fuel pump to my GU Td42T and after doing some searching found several people using Holley Blues. My question has anyone used another brand and how did it go?

was a regulator used?
what pressure were you running?
does it matter what size inlet and outlet the pump has?
where should it be mounted? (at fuel tank?, before filter? after filter?

thanks a lot

someone on http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/ had one running on a heavly modded TD42T.

i think the holly reds are meant to be a bit more reliable. i'm told the blue is basicly a red with different impeller and seal to get the extra pressure.

they should be fitted at tank level which sually means you need to fit a small basic filter to prtect the pump. a basic inline gause filter would do.

also i think fass or airdog are advailable in OZ, they have a neat system and also have seperate pumps advailable (90-150 gph).

not to sure about DSL but for high pressure for big EFI petral motors
we comonly use a in line turbo VL commodore pump,,.
it had enough pressure to explode the side out of the fule filter.
(until we put the correct filter on) usualy get em for around $40-$50
from wreckers,& thats with all mounting brackets

find out the pressure of the standard injector pump and get a pump that matches. remember holley do high and low pressure pumps (EFI and CARB) the blue efi does like 40psi pressure i think from memory and the blue carb pump does like 14psi
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

A decent carby style, Carter, Holley, something that will self regulate around 6-12 psi is sufficient.

fuel pump

Hey paul,

I was running the Carter GP4600HP pump it was the 100gph model. But still 8 psi.

I payed about $130 for it. So the ebay one is a little rich.

Cheers Heath.

Here is my new setup ;) ;)

Holley blue's are noisy unreliable pieces of shit! I'd go for a Pierburg pump, they're small, quiet and reliable.

I run a copy of a holley black on my sd33t. leaks a little but has held up for a good 6 months of abuse so far, about 20k id say so far.

got any info on them. a quick google showed a couple of them but they flow stuff all fuel. the holleys flow 3 times as much.
need to flow 90 odd gph for a stock vechile.

The Carter is also the one we choose for external fuel pumps for carbies and pre efi pumps on carby to efi conversions, I tend to agree the Holley makes more noise but some it comes down to the mounting, the rubber mounts with the carter are quite effective.
