What should i expect from a 2.8 hilux when accelerating? What would it be like compared to the LC75 diesel or even a sierra?

i drive a 79 series, which weigths close to 4 tonnes, and a 2.8D hilux.


The 79 will leave it for dead :cry:

they will get up to speed, just dont expect to beat anything off from the lights!

what kind accelerating do you get for any forby? Want to go fast get a motorbike. The fastest fourby is still slow anyway.

Non-turbo Hilux 2.8's accelerate!?!??!? :shock: :shock: :shock:

Seriously.... they're the deadest engines EVAR!!!!

I couldnt keep up with a stock 800cc Daihatsu Mira when I had the stock 29" tires on my lux. Now I've got 32s on it. Let's just say I've learned to be patient.

The 2005 on Lux's crap all over them.

I call BULLSH!T on that; I have personally seen three Lux's 2 older 2.8Litre models and one 3Litre newer model running up hills and highway driving. BOTH of the older models beat the newer one easily as in we were pulling away from him :finger:

i drove my mates 2.8 4runner a few weeks back, going along the highway it took 4 mins to get from 80 - 110 to overtake as we left an 80kph zone... we had almost made it back into another 80 zone by the time we had overtaken :D but once upto speed they are tops, even towing. just dont be in a rush to get upto speed

When mine was driven on road with 31's i draged off a mate in his 3.0L lux both carring no weight. Also done some sweet linelocks with the 31's and rear locker only 1st gear tho :cry:

It took me 7kms to get from 80 to 100 in a 2H powered 75 series drilling rig, with 780,000kms on the clock.

Yeh they arent real flash from 2 to 3rd without going turbo you could try extractors and throw out the viscous fan and go a thermo it made my old 2.4 with 33s beat my mates 2.8 with 31s

extractors make a tiny bit of difference, and i'll put money on the fact if you put a thermo on a 2.8D you'll wind up with overheating problems

Was it wired in right (turning right way) mates got one on his turbo 2.8 and it works sweet

With a hair dryer under the bonnet they go alright. I had a mate who owned an 89 hilux. To overtake he'd have to be going down a hill with the wind behind him. Never broke down and always got him home though. :P

2.8's love a little bit of advance on the injector pump timing. Those that are sluggish should check cam timing, belt slackness and injector pump timing. A poorly maintained 2.8 will be sluggish. Generally the sluggish one are those that have "Been looked after" by a home mechanic that thinks changing oils and filters is a 'service'. Seen it toooo many times.
