Fuel Tanks..
Fuel Tanks..
I'm thinking about extending the wheel base back on my swb patrol, but need some ideas on what to do with the fuel tank.. I'll probably do a switch on the spring mounts so they are on the opposite curve of the chasis and stick another cross member in further back.. This won't leave much room for a tank, and a small sub tank underneath isn't enough.. Any ideas?

Haven't measured it all up yet, but the idea was to take the spring mounts off and switch them to the other side of the chasis.. so the spring mount gets chopped, taken round the other side of the truck, and mounted back on the down slope towards the rear of the truck.. Having probs explaining myself so it's pic time..

if that is roughly where you are going to move the springs to, why no ditch the factory mounts, put a crossmember through at that point with some cylinders (~8" pipe @ 50mm long) to locate the coils. that crossmber then also becomes the rear mount for your fuel tank??
