was driving to work yesterday was finding it VERY FN difficult to get into the gears - when i was changing from 2nd to 1st slowing down for the lights i felt and heard a CRUNCH/BREAKING noise in the gear box and all of a sudden the gear stick was extremely loose!!!!
i adjusted the clutch cable and the clutch is fine, im still able to select gears fine but when im in gear the gear stick is able to move around alot
what the hell happened? something broke but dont know what...
i can still drive but theres alota movement with the gear stick - very loose
Have you tryed removing the gearstick? You may of just destroyed the plastic shaft seat? You can buy replacement bushes,in brass or plastic. I just made a steel one. Wont break now But the shaft mite wear out!
dont forget about the positioning bolt that bolts in behind the gear stick. If this has also broken $6 to replace the bolt, dont be scared to pull the gear stick housing out if you cant get the bolt out in the car!.
Just make sure its in nuetral!!
I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.
Yeh if vits are the same as sierras then I will back the locating bolt behind the gear stick has snapped. Happened to mine but be carefully when your removing the stick that the little piece thats broken off doesn't fall into the gearbox like mine did. Lucky it rolled into the rear selector part of the box and I could get it back out with a magnetic screw driver........once I found the bloody thing.

thats why you unbolt the whole gear stick housing with it lol
