Shackle pin diameter

Post by neil_se »

I've searched everywhere but can't find a definite answer. I'm making some extended shackles to suit Bruce's poly bushes, but not sure what diameter to drill the holes? I think the original pins are 13mm but i'm guessing 1/2" would be easier to but high tensile bolts for? I know there's not much of a difference between 12mm, 1/2" and 13mm but i just want to make the best choice.

cheers
Neil

Use 1/2" bolts.

1/2" 12.7mm - it's the best fit. 13mm isn't commercially available.

But if you're going to do that remember to only drill one side of the plate at 10mm and the other 13mm or the shackle will be really sloppy.

I really hate those stock pins. I have a range here in the shed with horrible wear on the 10mm threaded bit

For future reference my shackles are 50x8mm plate, 170mm total length, 120mm hole to hole.
