Thanks, awesome help guys, thanks a lot.

My twin transfers are both top shift as I have the first hole after the normal gear shift blanked off.

Does anyone know where i can find some instructions on pulling the transfer apart? Is it a big job to change the input gear? do I need to change bearing etc at the same time?

cheers

Give it a few days. If no one can give you a link on the web, I could scan the factory manual, if the info is in there.

Just confirming, you want the diagrams for the Hilux manual shift gear type transfer?

R150 box

Post by megabuff »

hi all

so i can put a R150 box in a 83 hilux and use the chain drive transferr case and it will be ok?

the chain drive will be as strong as the gear one?

in which case I will just need new or moded drive shafts I assume?

The R150 will handle a 308 as good as a supra box?

I have grafted the R151 housing onto the G52 housing and made a 23/21 spline couplers
I am wanting to cast some housings now
how do you do this please?

do you have a work shop where you do this work yourself?

can I use the complete R151F in my 83 lux

Post by megabuff »

so do you have to change over the tranferr case like ferrit is doing?

or can i get rid of my G52 and gear transfer case and just put the whole R151 box in?

of coures i will have to mod my drive shafts to souti the new box, but aort from that, any other issues?

do the R151 untis have an electornic 4WD engager or can oyu get them with a manual stick shifter?

You can swap the whole R15* unit box/chaindrive in or you can purchase an adaptor kit from locktup to bolt a geardrive. Geardirve is a better option if you wan tto buy reduction gears down the track but not necessary.

U may get away without changing your driveshafts also but Im not 100%.
Boof runs a R151f with chaindrive behind his 1UZ as did Twisty with his 4runner.

I'm assuming the top pic is R and bottom is G?

Do you have pics to show the difference in R and G type?
Top box is a G series the bottom box is a W series. Both 5 speeds. Bottom box was common in early solid axle toyota surfs.
correction the top box IS a R151 NOT a G52
The G52 oil drain plug is on the bottem of the housing
The R151 oil drain is on the side of the box as in the picture
I made this housing for the R151 gearbox to G52 transfer case about 5 years ago

If im not mistaken that is the demo photos off of the marlin crawler webite showing a topshift geardrive compared with a forward shift geardrive. top is a forward shift g52, bottom is a old surf topshift W56. neither of those is an R box as the oz R boxes r all chaindrive, only rare 22RTE american trucks run a R box with geardrive.
