diff swap for a jimny
diff swap for a jimny
hey all, ihave a 5" lifted 99 jimny, i have been having probs with axles. im thinkin about puttin a sierra wide track track diff in it. ive already fliped the steering coz it used to hit. the diff is a jimny housing modified to take a vit center (5:1 ratios). i put wide track axles in the housing to eliminate the jimny auto licking ones, ive got heaps of spagetty axles and countles broken ones. but the sierra axles dont reach the center, i thought about gettin them made but will only create probs if i bust em. any info will b a big help, cheerz
WT sierra diff is narrower (35mm) and you will have all sorts of scrub radius problems etc.
I'd go bundy diffs or build a hybrid sierra/jimny/vitara rear axle with spidertrax/trailtough CV's and custom inner axles.
If you're careful, you'll only need one custom inner axle (aroun $300 for EN26) and the rest of the stuff is pretty cheap.
Won't be as strong as bundera with upgraded shafts, but it's not as wide or heavy either.
Steve.

the extra weight in the axles isn't always a major problem as it will lower you centre of gravity, plus opens up options for a bulletproof setup, you could problary buy the toy diffs and trailing arms for cheaper than what you could come with spidertrax axles landed in aus and running hybrid diffs..
plus being toyota parts are easy and in nearly every town

Not all of us want toyota junk in our suzukis though.
Suzookme is in Vic, and with our long greasy hills added weight is not generally an advantage.

I haven't looked into it, but being 35mm wider than WT, is a lux (bundera) diffed jimny a registerable proposition in QLD?
Forgetting the SPOA/SPUA part by using bundy gear, I was under the impression that it was track width that prevented lux diffed sierras being legal up here.
Any feedback guys?

cheerz guys, not sure what im gonna do,
only havin 2wd is givin me the . i already have the wt diff 15mm each side shouldnt hurtto much, the bump stops have all been sorted. i might jus run spacers on the wheels. the rear diff is a sierra coily and i cant get that to scrub (ive hadit in some pretty bad spots)
also where can i get some performance bits for a vit engine(i think its a 16b) wanna run some kind of turbo on it. its in the jim, gets a little slugish. i dont wanna go to crazy maybe 8 - 10 pounds standard gear wont last to long at that sort of boost

I was hoping while we were on the subject someone might have some relevant past experience they might be able to share before I ring the authorities enquiring about a modification to a vehicle I don't yet own.
For definitive answers, as opposed to internet hearsay, obviously direct dealings are preferred. I thought some Outers brainstorming might be helpful though.

ahhh my old jimny! well that was the first.....setup changed since then to use alot of sierra components. jimny king pin journals are machined at a different angle to compensate for the flex of the housing, by using sierra knuckles you eliminate excessive camber angles...oh yes people...jimny housings flex!
