How much power for a comp truck

Post by segan1 »

How much power is to much for a comp truck.
We all hear 150rwkw -300rwkw but at what point does it become to much.
Surely traction must become a problem with some of the big horse power motors.
Im here for the sausage!

Power is in the drivers hands. I've seen 3ltr Diesels win the XWC 2 years in a row and this year it was taken out by a 4.2 oil burner. 600hp may not be that bright as 90% of comp trucks run standard GU transfer Boxes and their not designed 4 600hp. Torque is the way 2 go!!!

torque is what breaks drive lines.

not mater the peak power, if the peak torque is the same even if it's at a different RPM point it's still the same amount hurt on the driveline.

though lifting and dropping a wheel at 6000rpm will hurt more then doing at 3000rpm regarless of power.

as above.

Really depends on how usable the power is to how much you can have. Having 500kw kick in over 5000rpm is gonna be useless off road where as having 200kw available (in a linear fashion not a sudden increase) from 1000rpm will be much more usable. IMO you want nice linear power delivery (basically a flat torque curve) for technical off road driving which is why I would be inclined to go for a reasonably large capacity engine over a small turbo (4.2 six turbo or 6.0 V8 vs 2.5L turbo).
