nissan gq diff strength.

Post by qwikcorty »

Just doing some research before buying parts, if i were to build strong motor 500+hp, how well would the gq diffs like being abused taking off with heaps of grip in the dry in 4x4 ? Has anyone heard of people drag racing there patrols? Mainly interested in how much abuse they can take in a drag racing enviroment.

Th GQ CV won't handle this too well, the Diff itself will take it, but the CV will just go bang

You will want a GU front end as they have a stronger CV joint in them

I have over 500 hp with standard GQ drive train including CV's. The CV's have so far completed 2 (well finished one) comps without a problem. I do drive accordingly and are careful when the front locker goes in but the cv have handled it. I have blown to freewheel hubs since October last year when I got it going but that isn't bad. I have an auto and have done a bit to that and the auto does take the shock loading out so that helps.
Apart from cro-moly CV's I have no plans to change anything else as it is all strong enough.

Yeah thats about right, have a look a any serious drag GTR skyline, they usually all run in rear wheel drive, and they're awd standard.

driving all 4 wheels uses up too much power in that application, also under hard acceleration theres hardly any weight on the front.
You'd be better off spending your time with sticky tyres and good suspension.
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots

Marks 4wd seem to have changed their site around....but for a long time they stated clear as day on the website the Patrol drivetrain (all of it) was fully capable of handling v8 power.

they run in rwd as the centre diff has been set up in such a way that it splits the power to the rear by 80/20 so 80 percent to the rear and 20 percent to the front. thats y the gtr's launch so hard out of the whole.
