Plasma rope
I winched an 8 tonne truck today out of some mud just behind my house and realised that my cable is completely stuffed....heaps of bad kinks and so on.
Anyway now that the aussie $$ is doing so well i'm guessing that plasma rope should be fairly cheap. Anyone know of a reliable place in the states to buy from? I'm looking at around 30m and my mate wants around 50m.
Cheers

Re: Plasma rope
Aussie $ buys about 1.22 Un Zed dollars at the moment. I just got 15 metres Amsteel Blue (8mm) in my hands for AUS$84, internet order from a yacht supply mob (don't have stuff like winch fairleads). Visa and airmail across the Tasman. Almost like buying local, hey Bro!!! Just suggesting you look around and don't asume buying from USA is cheapest.Jimbo wrote:Anyway now that the aussie $$ is doing so well i'm guessing that plasma rope should be fairly cheap. Toyotas, Engels, and old dogs have never let me down.
Plasama rope
I replaced mine with a rope from a rope supplier in brisbane. I paid almost 10 dollars a metre but if I had taken the 200 metre roll it would have been about $7.15 a metre for 10mm.

Re: Plasma rope
Try running it through a winch block before replacing it.Jimbo wrote: my cable is completely stuffed....heaps of bad kinks and so on.
As long as the kinks etc go through the block while under some load they will straighten out like new again.
If the kinks are on the drum side of the half way point on the cable then just set up a triple line pull.
As long as the cable doesn`t have heeps of frayed strands it will be fine.
WAY cheaper then replacing it.
My winch is now 9 years old and has done heeps of work, it still has the original cable on it and its near perfect. Have looked at it a few times and thought mmmm time for a new one. But once I`ve done the good old winch block trick it just comes up like new again.
