the only way i can get around this while at a stop is to give it some gas myself so it doesnt idle at 500 rpm. i need this problem fixed and fast. any ideas?

driving condictions its ok, but if i'm doing some steady driving, then let off the gas to let the engine drop to idle speed (i.e. at a light) alot of times the engine dies instantly. also... i've managed to keep it running but it seems to try to idle at 500 rpms and keeps sputtering and wanting to die... wtf am i to do... the only way i can get around this while at a stop is to give it some gas myself so it doesnt idle at 500 rpm. i need this problem fixed and fast. any ideas?

On top of the throttle body is a rubber plug. Under the plug is an idle adjuster screw. Bring the US Rocky up to operating temperature and adjust the idle. I can't remember which way to turn to increase idle speed but think that it is clockwise.
It took me about a year to get mine running right after I took it to get an emissions sticker...the garage really screwed things up and it still wouldn't pass emissions or run right after I got it back. They even installed a used computer at $200.00. The problem was mostly timing, a hotter spark plug and idle adjustment. I checked vacuum lines, sensors, removed and cleaned the throttle body...everything I could think of. It idles perfectly now and has great throttle response...have an extra computer now.
This could be a symptom of something else though like sensors, vacuum lines, timing etc. but you might try the adjustment screw on the throttle body...it's the easiest thing to do.

The screw goes anti clockwise to increase the idle. Check your timing too- if it's retarded the idle speed will drop and cause the same problem.
Finally, there's a little device on the throttle body (called a dash pot from memory??) that stops the throttle from shutting closed completely and slowly allows it to close the last bees dick of travel. It's adjustable for the the time it keeps the throttle open- or your's may be stuffed.
