Post by adriand82 »

hey all, i have a td42 with a 5 spd, that crunches a little into 4th when hot, if i try change with any haste. if i ease it in it's ok. ive just done a change of 3/4 castrol vmx80 and 1/4 as recommended lucasoil stabiliser to try rectify the problem. has helped a fair bit but is still kinda there under a quick shift. any suggestions? and what am i looking at for a reco? thanks in advance :-)

im told that this is quite a common problem with those vehicles fitted with a vac boosted clutch.

The issue seems to be when they get hot, the booster seems to be not as effective, and causes the clutch to not disengage fully.

I have yet to change to booster to see if this fixes the problem. I have changed the slave cyl, and changed fluid and bled the system.

my old gearbox used to do it in 5th.
My new $200 box has started to do it in 3rd (after a couple of years though...)

My old box was at the stage of having to run a thicker oil in summer to change smooth and a thinner oil in winter to change smooth.
