Hey Bushy, What are those LED things under the headlights on your patrol? Do you have a pic of them? Also is there a huge difference between the standard XGT's and the 55W HID conversion. Could you please send me a price including post to brizzy for the XGT kit?

Yep, the H4 hi/lo HID just fits straight in. Mount the ballasts and the relay control relay box (different to every kit), and then just connect it straight into the existing wiring. Connect the two power wires from the control relay box to battery. Job done. Your existing spottie hi/lo switch will still do the hi/lo thang on the spotties.
I have no comparison pics with these lights though. From memory they come with 130w/180w halogen fat boy bulbs.

LED's: Six 5mm white leds fitted to bit of plastic underneath both headlights. Just had to even it out since there are six 5mm red led's at the rear. All just connected to the parking lights. Dunno why, got bored one day and had a play. Just for the different look. Six led's mounted up underneath in the intercooler scoop as well. Trying to find pic, but cant find one.

Difference between real LF 240HID (35 watt) and a DIY 55w is a bit of difference, and dollars that you save can be put into your fuel tank.
I do not know if Lightforce have fixed their 50watter 240HID's.
Last I heard their 50w'ers were taken off the market due to a lot of their ballasts going *pop*. This was un-confirmed, and may have been a rumor...

l just bought H3 HID kit from ebay and they are from China recieved them in 5 days, fitted them last night 55w 6000k and they are a very white light once they warm up....l will be buying some more from this ebayer as comunication is fantastic...

There are three types of moving mechanisms that I know of.
1) Moving bubl in and out, conencted to the solenoid. Personally I reckon this would suck, since the amount of *shock* that is giving the bulb is heaps. Unfortunately tihs is in the few H4 kits that I had. One left in stock. Didn't know until I got them here.

3) Tilting bulb - the bulb tilts from standard horizontal position to that of around 15 to 20 degrees which creates the lo and high beam pattern. Again, moving bulb --- shock factor --- not real good in my opionion.

Other than asking individual sellers on ebay - not really sure.
Have one set sitting on lounge room floor which are option 1.
Can always asked Andrew E how his three H4 hi/lo kits are going for durability.
I don't know what Steve's 'On4ToU' kits are.
I am pretty sure that Paul Sinclair of www.brightlightautoparts.com (melbourne) are sheild sliders. But better verify with him.

I could always pull my sheild slider 35watters out of me ute and you could have them for a few dollars. And I'll fit the bulb slider 55 watters...

Any ballast will fit. Even the dead set early version 1 massive ballasts will easily fit into any 'bull light' that I have so far come across. Hella, Narva, Tri-light. In fact, you could just about nearly fit two normal sized ballasts in the housing.
Shame that a ballast can't fit one in the back of an IPF 800 , IPF 900 etc.
Slim line might just fit, though have not had the opportunity to try.

.......Shoved the 4300k 55w kit into Hella Rallye 2000's on friday arvo.
Went out at 9:30pm out of town to align the spotties back up.
[This is the first 4300k kit I have ever played with]
Turned them on, and holy smackarooney. They are good! I was impressed.

Old mate who owned the ute and lights... was just completely gob smacked. I was too stupid to take me camera, so no video or pics.

For ultimate light output, 4300k is certainly the G.O.

So my useless opinion on the original thread question, ebay cheap HID kit, yes/no? For $100.00, I would. I have done. I will do again.

I've got some Narva somethings sitting on my bench in the shed. The plastic rear housings were all smashed and I have glued and screwed them into hella comet 151 plastic housings. The H3 HID bulbs definately fit, though have not turned them on for a photo shoot.
I do not know if they are 'projector 240' or another model, but certainly look the same physical size.

being a long distance spread beam it would be cool.

im keen to try. just dont want to stuff $$$ lights

Regarding HID conversions to factory headlights: isnt it illegal unless the headlights or HID globes have integrated bulb shields in front of the globes?

To LEGALLY convert standard headlights to HID according to the ADR's, the lght must be self leveling, must have some form of self cleaning(washers) and must have bulb shields.

ADR 77 and ADR78 goes on and on. Some more rubbish:
Max of 35w.
No more than 4300k in colour.
Housings must conform to E4 something or other.
Must be euro and not Japan or US spread pattern.
Bulb must be of some exact type, shape and size.
Pattern must be within certain measured specs.

Certainly gave someone a job in canberra for a bit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that is how it is written.

I know Honda doesn't have headlight washer nozzels and I'm checking dads on the weekend to check for an auto-levelling system as I have a feeling it doesn't have one.

Why? Because I'm now about 1/3 of the way through modifying a set of those 'crystal' headlights with a set of BMW HID projectors (and copying the Honda setup gives me ammo to valididate legality of the conversion)

I'll post pics when its done for if anyone else wants a set made.

We are well and truely over the sliding mechanism type for headlight upgrades. We replaced every set we sold with the style we Have which is a dual globe arrangement (either angled or straight with a shield). You can check them out at www.hidrus.com.au. Our products are dearer than what you can get on ebay for a number of reasons.
2 year full replacemet warranty. 99% of the time we send the replacemet part to you the next day on the rare occasion something does fail (So far only about 1% of the products we have supplied have had a failure)
35w have a minimum of 3200 lumens
50w have a minimum of 4500 lumens up to 5200 (most 55w ebay kits only have 3200 lumens)
I am only a phone call away if you have any queries re fitting etc.
All products have been tried and tested for quaility, globe colour, startup by us to ensure customer satisfaction. A number of the top competition guys run our lights and can contest to their qualiy.
I am always looking for the next thing (now have 80w available) ( convert XGT't to 100w)
We custom build most lights to your requirements (even we think 160w is well and truely overkill, but if thats what you want.)
We do adjustable XGT adaptors so you can convert them to spot, spread or flood as well as the std lightforce adaptors. They are all new fully cnc machined aluminium heat sinks.

I fitted a set of 50watt chinese HIDs from Hiking1978 on Ebay to my Ford Territorys H7 high beams yesterday.
$100 delivered and seem to be very good.
Made the high beams bright as hell, I got them in 5000k colour.
So far very happy!

HIDs might melt the plastic light housing, I was going to run them in my bike but got warned I shouldn’t.
Can anyone confirm or deny

Someone on here has tested the temp output from a HID bulb, Bushy I think it might have been, and from memory they run cooler than a 100 watt halogen bulb.
